TANITH AND THE LION TREE 2 x LP NOW AVAILABLE:

appx. date: April 1, 2002

Over a decade after its initial CD release, Flesh Eating Ants Records is proud to present Edward Ka-Spel’s classic “Tanith and the Lion Tree” in the format it was always intended: on ultra-thick vinyl. “Tanith and the Lion Tree” has been repackaged as a double LP set on grey-coloured, 220 gram audiophile quality vinyl. Edward has also provided 3 brand new bonus tracks to complete the second LP. For those of you who may not know, the original planned vinyl release would have seen the final two tracks omitted to allow the piece to sit as a single LP, however the bonus material fits so well with the tracks (“Phoney War” and “Old Man Trouble”) that a double LP was entirely necessary. The complete work has been remastered by Edward to better fit the medium, and a few changes have been made. The release is limited to 512 hand-numbered copies, and the item is now in stock and has been shipped out to those who have pre-ordered.

ELECTRICALLY INDUCED VIBRATIONS:

appx. date: May 1, 2002

Edward Ka-Spel and The Silverman are featured on the new “Electrically Induced Vibrations” compilation which will be released in August 2002 by Anomalous Records. Edward’s song is entitled “Burdon” and the new Silverman piece is called “Cartilage Music”. Both tracks are exclusive to this release. The LP itself is on multi-coloured vinyl and is limited to 414 copies. 100 of these copies will be given to contributors and a large number of pre-orders have already been placed, so act VERY quickly!

UPCOMING RELEASES FROM BETA-LACTAM RING RECORDS:

appx. date: May 15, 2002

Many new Pink Dot related releases are in the pipeline at Beta-Lactam Ring Records. First up is “So Close Yet So Far Out”, the latest solo offering from the ultra-talented Martijn de Kleer. This will be a double LP pressed on 220 gram vinyl via direct metal mastering. Packaged with various inserts, the first 250 copies will also include postcards autographed by Martijn. The music itself ranges from pure psychedelia to melodic abstract collages. Martijn is joined on this LP by cEvin Key, The Silverman and Ryan Moore. Expect this release sometime in October, but for now you can listen to a short MP3.

Also due in October is the CD edition of “O’er A Shalabast’r Tyde Strolt Ay”, Edward’s most recent musical masterpiece. The CD edition will be slightly re-mixed and will include bonus material.

Last but not least are two new Legendary Pink Dot CDRs, which will be packed with professionally printed inserts and burned onto white washed discs. More details are coming soon, so stay tuned.

ALL THE KING’S HORSES & ALL THE KING’S MEN:

appx. date: June 1, 2002

The first details of the two new LPD studio albums, due this fall, are starting to emerge from Chez Dots. “All The King’s Horses” is actually finished and will be released by Soleilmoon, while “All The King’s Men” (to be released by ROIR) is awaiting the final mix.

Word from Edward is that these albums are more “song based” than the last few releases, with the exception of the 25-minute opus “All The King’s Men”/ “The Brightest Star” which concludes the ROIR CD.

EYE SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE:

appx. date: July 1, 2002

Edward is hard at work on the forthcoming Tear Garden release, entitled “Eye Spy With My Little Eye”. This CD is part of the Subconcious Communications “From The Vault” series. The cover art (courtesy of Litany) can be seen here. All tracks will be exclusive to this release.

The new Niels Van Hoorn CD is also available through Soleilmoon. According to the label press release: In the middle of 2001, Niels Van Hoorn (Legendary Pink Dots) received a friendly e-mail from Ryan Moore (Twilight Circus Dub Sound System / Legendary Pink Dots) offering assistance with his new solo album. He promised “no stress, just fun!” And that is exactly what happened. Moore ended up playing drums and congas, which were looped and later employed for multi-track recordings. Van Hoorn’s experiments with a Boomerang Phrase sampler resulted in the first sax loop on the album, which were mixed live with effects to a 2-track tape. For the most part, Van Hoorn placed himself in the middle of his studio, encircled by his collection of saxes, clarinets, flutes, analogue windsynths and keyboards, and would walk around to each, improvising. Everything was then recorded by Moore and passed through his “effects kitchen” for some sonic baking. And voila! “Colours” came into being. Both Niels and Ryan hope you enjoy listening to it as much as they enjoyed producing it.

“EYE SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE” UPDATE:

appx. date: November 15, 2002

Scott at Litany passed on the following information regarding the new Tear Garden CD:

“Some of the tracks were recorded in the 80’s and sound “lo-fi” at times. The songs are time-sequential-ish and start with demos from 1986 and work up to a new track (entitled “Changer”) which was recorded just for this release. Everything is pretty close to being finalized and “Eye Spy With My Little Eye” should hit the presses relatively soon.”

If you still need to pre-order a copy, you can do it here.

The two festival dates in January are “100% confirmed”, according to Edward. He also reports that the shows in Athens, Greece are looking “extremely likely”. These will be the first live Pink Dot performances in Greece.

January 28: Paris, France/La Locomotive (Festival)
March 14: Vicenza, Italy

BETA-LACTAM RING PRINTS AND ARTWORK FOR SALE:

appx. date: December 10, 2002

Beta-lactam Ring Records is now offering prints of the cover art from Edward Ka-Spel’s “O’er A Shalabast’r Tyde Strolt Ay”, Martijn de Kleer’s “So Close Yet So Far Out.” Prints are available in very limited quantities and can be purchased here.

MARTIJN DE KLEER: “SO CLOSE YET SO FAR OUT”:

appx. date: December 15, 2002

Beta-lactam Ring Records is now accepting orders for Martijn’s new 2 X LP.

From the label press release:

” All the I’s are microdotted and all the mushroom teas crossed as Martijn’s guitar gently seeps, crawls, oozes, boils and burns. And even though Martijn’s Dotted past is in some evidence, this is hardly an LPD karaoke album. This is a fully fleshed-out beast of original design. Martijn’s vocals occasionally punctuate the parade, but the majority involves instrumental clusters, some based in rock form and others more like giant swelling clouds, all thick with psychedelia (acid rain?). Besides the requisite fuzzing guitar (see also Damon and/or Helios Creed), Martijn employs such merry men as Ryan Moore and cEvin Key. A beautiful production that is filled with sonic surprises at every turn and is sure to make any day trip, erm, trippier. 8 tracks over 2 albums, exactly the way any good psych record is supposed to be, damnit! The finale is a particularly rewarding climb to Heaven on a honeyed ladder, from which view is all poppies, beautiful poppies, and the sound is perfectly Kleer. 2-220 gram audiophile vinyl lps, packed in a full color gatefold sleeve.”

LETTER TO LPD FANS FROM BENNY (ORIGAMI GALAKTIKA):

appx. date: December 25, 2002

On Christmas Day, I received the following e-mail from Benny of Origami Galaktika. He asked me if I would put it online in the usual places so that he could thank everyone for the kindness they showed him when he opened for the Legendary Pink Dots on their North American tour. So without further ado…here it is:

Hello everybody!

I hope you’re all doing well and that the Great Lord and/or the High Spirits (whichever you prefer) look upon you with grace and that you will all be granted good lives.

I would like to use this as an opportunity to express my gratefulness and appreciation to the following people:

First of all to The Dots and their collaborators for inviting me along on this, my first journey to the US of A, and by doing this giving me the chance to see and meet all you people.

When Edward first asked me (in Oslo, summer 2001) I immediately replied “Yes I’d love to, if it turns out to be possible, and if I’m granted the right to enter the country”…(it’s hard to tell right?!) of a year went by and then I got a mail asking if I was still into it and the ball started rolling…

Luckily, it turned out I was allowed to enter by the authorities that seem to believe they’re in charge…

Then second, to everybody that I will not mention by name, you know who you are!!!!

Then third but no less important, to all you people that were there for treating me so nice and being mostly open-minded to what Origami represents and what I represent within the Origami Republika. It’s about love, it’s about freedom, it’s about life.

Also to the one guy in New Orleans that was shouting so loud during my gig that I was almost scared and to the crowd in Orlando where most people seemed to have way more important things to do than pay attention to this tall, weird guy with the braided beard, making all these slow and drony sounds.

And I must not forget the guy in St. Petersburg that went to the wrong gig. I guess Lynyrd Skynyrd were playing somewhere else and you, my dear friend, didn’t notice that it wasn’t where you bought a ticket to enter. But I’m not angry, (I’ve heard that hillbilly life isn’t always easy and you had probably had a hard day throwing rocks at your neighbours) I’m sorry that I could not play “Freebird in Chains” for you.

Maybe next time…

Those of you that I have promised to write will hear from me sooner or later and those of you that would like to get in touch, my e-mail is galaktika@hotmail.com.

But please remember to write “Pink Dots” or something I will understand in the subject line, ok!? It is hotmail and as those of you that have hotmail know I do get a lot of shit there…

I could go on but my point is just to say thank you all, hope to see you again!!!!

All the best to all of you, take care, make a difference.

Sing while you may and treat your neighbours nice.

Love + light,

Benny

The Legendary Pink Dots’ mood-altering mix of psychedelic pop and trippy jams

By Sam Prestianni
published: November 13, 2002

Like any mood-altering substance that may be hazardous to your health, the Legendary Pink Dots require a certain leap of faith for a successful experience. Listeners must trust that Edward Ka-Spel’s parade of freaky noise will send them somewhere over the rainbow instead of stranding them in the existential gutter on the way there. With his latest release, the three-CD Chemical Playschool Volumes 11, 12 & 13, Ka-Spel puts this premise to the ultimate test.

The box set’s individual discs — Excess, Where the Hell????, and I Can See Clearly Now (I Think) — are basically nonstop soundtracks, with no digital time codes separating tracks such as “Furtherfurtherfurtherfurtherfurther” and “OK, It’s Betsy the Bumblebee.” Without being able to simply access specific songs, the listener must submit to a full hour of LPD overload in order to reap maximum benefits. In an attention-deficit world, this is no small demand on even the staunchest fan.

But after dozens of Pink Dots recordings (and plenty of solo albums) since he began making music in 1980, Ka-Spel has proved himself a trustworthy designated driver with a clearly defined, hyperwired vision. He brings the finesse and sophistication of classical avant-garde composition to an alien mix of psychedelic pop (reminiscent of Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd), trippy ’60s jams (à la the Grateful Dead), mind-melting industrial thump (think Skinny Puppy), and synth-deep rave grooves designed for astral projection. If you put your faith in the transformative power of LPD, Ka-Spel will steer you out of both mind and body.

Where: Slim’s, 333 11th St. (at Folsom), S.F.
Details: Friday, Nov. 15, at 9 p.m.
Tickets are $15-17

Oct 12 2002 Philadelphia Show Blurb (Philadelphia City Paper)

Forget that goths love them. Focus instead on the fact that the Brit-Amsterdamian, doom-laden, sampladelic Dots have had more oddly-foreign recruits in their 22 years than the touring company of Mamma Mia. One consistency of LPD — from 1985’s The Lovers (a personal favorite) up through new notorious fare like All The King’s Horses (Solielmoon) — is their savage republican ethos. It’s a vicious, vexing but somehow sober mix of eclectic, erotic, electronic sounds, wretched but subtle reed arrangements and scabrous messages. Their most recent electro-operatic-epic, the three-CD Chemical Playschool features old songs made new and nervous and holds nothing dear — not LPD’s avant-classical past, not their wrinkled goth pedigree. Instead, Playschool is a trip-dub-kraut-freak-folk mess of long mood-swinging instrumentals and shouted-down epiphanies powerfully linear in its diversity.

Sat., Oct. 12, 9 p.m., $14, with Oragami Gallactica, The North Star, 27th and Poplar sts., 215-684-0808.

Chemical Playschool 11, 12 & 13 (Dusted Magazine)

Artist: Legendary Pink Dots
Album: Chemical Playschool 11, 12 & 13
Label: Soleilmoon
Review date: Apr. 6, 2002

I Was Raised To Expect Continuity…

The eventual ubiquity of CD burners will close the book on our old pal the mixed tape. Not just the format, but the medium. Used to be crafting the right mix was like inviting someone into your head, hoping they had the patience to follow your whims for 90 minutes and the soul to interpret the subtle cues you’d hidden in transitions and continuity. Burning someone a mixed CD, that’s a whole different show. You can index the tracks, which will allow random access. Basically, that makes it your own personal Totally Hits comp. Nine times out of ten, the recipient will burn the two or three songs he or she likes onto another disc and chuck your gift faster than Sam hocked your band’s promo. Or, you can put all the tunes onto one hour-plus track, if you’re that kind of an asshole.

That’s what the LPDs do on each of these three platters. They’re plenty of SONGS, just no TRACKS. So, if you play one through and really dig something about 52 minutes in, the number with the ominous voodoo drums and obsolete synths oozing out of the speakers like molasses spiked with LSD, or the part that’s on some weird-ass bossa nova shit, or that one bit that sounds like and Edison cylinder in reverse, you’ll have some manual fast-forwarding to do if you want to hear it again. Soleilmoon’s explanation is a tad hard to swallow: “It is not a collection of ‘greatest hits,’ nor does it have any potential for radio airplay.” Sounds like a serious snub to college radio, but hey, you’re the DJ, I’m only the rapper. And I suppose that, in the age of shuffle, program and download, this is one of the few remaining ways to make an LP feel like an odyssey.

Indeed, these three stashboxes of downers and psychedelics are best consumed in toto. It’s profoundly passive music, tone poetry trimmed with opaque anecdotes from dreams and soaked in all the excretions of readymade profundity. Particularly sneering, wheezing, hook-free guitar. It’s a lot like being, uh, dangerously fucked up. With only the neighborhood’s most antisocial bookstore clerk to talk you down.

UMMAGUMMA!

NEWSLETTER 5

The question is, what the hell am I going to do with the 350 cans of peas I stockpiled for the apocalypse? It was a cosy retreat out there on the Ombahba Islands, at least 3 kilometres under the ground…plenty of candles, a few thousand boxes of matches, vegetarian cup-a-soup (3 cartons),… I won´t go on. Didn´t bother with a TV because I was counting on hearing the ceiling rumble a little when the 4 horsemen thundered across the planet on January 1st. When the rumbling stopped I figured it was safe to come out again.
The reason why I am writing this now is that I forgot my can-opener, and when I emerged to make a swift dash to the local Ombahba Supermarket to buy one I noticed it was January the 8th and everything was still there. It has occurred to me, however, that I may have inadvertently slipped into another dimension where everything simply looks the same. Nevertheless my behavioural patterns will remain the same. So happy new millenium, folks… welcome to the Legendary Pink Dots’ latest newsletter.

On a more serious note, everyone here was shocked and saddened to hear about the death of our old friend Tomasz Beksinski in Warsaw on Christmas Eve. Tomasz was a DJ with Radio 3 in Poland and introduced our music to the whole country many years ago. We met him for the first time early in the 90s in Wroclaw, liked him enormously and the friendship grew each time we returned. Tomasz.. wherever you are now… may you have found the peace you deserve.

THE YEAR 2000….PLANS,DELUSIONS etc.

Legendary Pink Dots have resumed recording their latest album. Release date is scheduled for March/April and a long North American tour is planned for end May/June. A taster for the album will be made available here at the Dots website at the end of February thanks to the miracle of the MP3.
Before this album is available, a new TEAR GARDEN CD should be in the shops entitled “Crystal Mass.” Tear Garden´s first tour looks set to occur in the Fall in North America. Also imminent is MIMIR 3 on Streamline/Anomalous Records.
Legendary Pink Dots are planning only a few shows in Europe this year, though dates listed below are confirmed. We have just received an invitation to play in Greece (possibly end -April) and want to do this.. but no promises as our previous attempts to play there ended in disappointment. Israel, Russia, Mexico and The Baltic States remain possibilities for this year as well.
A new album by Edward Ka-Spel is planned for release in February entitled “Red Letters”, while “The Scriptures of Illumina” along with other long unavailable Terminal Kaleidoscope titles will be reissued by Soleilmoon. This doesn´t mean the end of the TEKA label… it simply isn´t feasible for re-presses without any distribution in Europe.
All Play it Again Sam titles will re-emerge via Soleilmoon this year, while the last of LPDs cassettes on CD series is slated for the Spring (“Stained Glass Volume 2”- APPARITION/ATOMIC ROSES/BASLISK. A double). Also likely is the appearance of “Under triple Moons” on vinyl.
LPDs were sad to see Edwin Von Trippenhof leave the band at the start of December for personal reasons. We wish him all the best, and would like to point out that he is also making some fine music as a solo artist. If he wants to release it, look for it here.
Martijn de Kleer has rejoined the Pink Dots on guitar and occasional violin.

LPD 2000
Year 2000 marks 20 years that LPD has been playing and recording together as such. There’s now a brand new miniature biography authored by EKS where the history page is.

RECENT RELEASES

  • DNA LE DRAW D-KEE – Reissue on CD of very obscure vinyl release project of Edward Ka-Spel, Elke P., Ryan Moore.
  • Sing While You May – Russian compilation CD in Cyrillic fonts. 2 new tracks, one new version of Supper at J’s, domestic USA price from Soleilmoon…
  • LEGENDARY PINK DOTS Live at the metro (35 DFL/20 $ US/ 17 goddamn Euros).
First full-length live CD from the Dots. A good audience recording of our show in Chicago last November (thanks to Nick who provided the CDRs for us). Original plan was to issue multi-tracked recording from Poznan a couple of years ago…but the fire and spirit of this performance in Chicago simply came across much stronger even if it isn’t quite so hi-fi. Parts of the Poznan show (3 tracks) will eventually emerge …possibly as a mini-CD.
This “Live at Metro” CD is a Polish import, features many photographs and includes CD-rom material of a rather silly interview.
  • EDWARD KA-SPEL, “Share the Day/Dream Stealer” (15 DFL/8 $ US)
2 new tracks on a 7″ vinyl single released by long term LPD friend jon Whitney of the excellent Brainwashed website (www.brainwashed.com).

NEWSLETTER 6
Spring. The new millenium. The battered Winter fields transforming into a riot of colour.
Ah, glorious isn’t it? Can see a beam from the almost forgotten sun reflecting on the roof of a Mercedes as it speeds down the highway which runs past this window. Happy demolition workers roll up their sleeves as the big metal ball smashes into what’s left of a farmhouse across the road. Happy workers part the curtains in the automatic door factory which backs onto the demolition site.
Spring….

THE YEAR 2000…. PLANS,DELUSIONS etc.
Legendary Pink Dots are pleased to announce that the new album ,”A Perfect Mystery” is completed, and we’re quite pleased with ourselves this time around. It feels like an especially good one to all who made it. Look out for it perhaps sometime in April.

Mimir 3 and Edward Ka-Spel’s new solo album, “Red Letters” are out now, but new Tear Garden (“Crystal Mass”) is now slated for Summer release.

LPDs’ USA/Canada tour with Dead Voices on Air is in advanced planning stage now and first date should be in Toronto on May 24. There are still plans to visit Greece. A special CD will become available at shows on the USA tour, reaching the shops when it has finished.

Tear Garden may play a handful of shows in Europe in September, with a USA tour tentatively planned for November.

STAALPLAAT/OPEN CIRCUIT
Staalplaat have embarked on a project offering bands and artists who have not yet had anything commercially released,or have gained no serious exposure,a real chance to have their music heard. Anyone supplying them with a finished ,coded CDR and artwork can have this work manufactured (as CDRs) and distributed to their regular outlets as well as advertised in their catalogues. For further information contact Staalplaat via www.staalplaat.com and click on the “news” item. The project/distribution outlet is known as Open Circuit.

A WORD OF ADVICE FOR NEW BANDS
In the jubilation of creating a new CD and receiving a contract from a record company, mistakes can sometimes be made.
Chances are, a representative of the record company will wave a SECOND contract under your nose stating how the label’s publishing wing wants to publish your songs. Chances are, this contract will be in an obscure branch of English known as “legalese”. Should you ask a question about it, you will be assured that it’s “just standard industry practice” for a label’s publishing wing to publish the songs of its sister company.
Chances are, there will be an innocuous sentence telling you that the contract is valid for the “period of the copyright”.
Don’t sign it! We did to find out that Play it Again Sam’s publishing wing (SC Confidence) apparently has us under contract until 70 years after our deaths. We are making trouble about this.
Standard industry practice….

ONLINE UPDATE – 12th July, 2000

SUMMER 2000
Here is the latest Legendary Pink newsletter for the curious, and the first to appear after our USA tour, which may have been the most enjoyable adventure we’ve had on the highway. Many thanks to all those who turned up and made us feel so welcome.

Alas the two European festivals planned in Dresden and Trutnov are going ahead without LPDs, but the band is planning shows in Europe in the near future, so suggestions would be welcome. Also all apologies for the new LPD album, “A Perfect Mystery” not being available yet in Europe. Thank you for your patience.

NEW CD-Rs
Beta-Lactam Ring Records is announcing the release of two more CD-Rs from the dots: “KOLLABARIS,” TeKa05/B-LRR features drastic re-workings of Tear Garden pieces previously only available on compilation CDs plus unreleased sessions; Artwork/Bring the Rain; rare unheard LPD pieces and quite a bit more. “Needles 3,” TeKa04/B-LRR collects many pieces from the long deleted “Thin Blue Line” LP plus very obscure/exclusive pieces. REISSUE ISSUES
The Soleilmoon reissues scneduled for January 18th have been pushed back. There is no current date set but the following is the plan for reissues of PIAS products:

>>> CAD 18 Legendary Pink Dots “The Golden Age”
>>> CAD 20 Legendary Pink Dots “Crushed Velvet Apocalypse”
>>> CAD 21 Legendary Pink Dots “The Maria Dimension”

second round
>>> CAD 16 Legendary Pink Dots “Island of Jewels”
>>> CAD 19 Legendary Pink Dots “Legendary Pink Box”

third round
>>> CAD 14 Legendary Pink Dots “The Lovers”
>>> CAD 15 Legendary Pink Dots “Asylum”

fourth round
>>> CAD 22 Legendary Pink Dots “Shadow Weaver”
>>> CAD 23 Legendary Pink Dots “Malachai”

CRYSTAL MESS

The brand new Tear Garden CD, “Crystal Mass” has been released by Nettwerk in North America. The track listing, however is rather mismatched to the track numbers on the CD. While we here at brainwashed are still awaiting confirmation on the music, we can say with 100% certainty that track one is “Lament” while two different songs share track four. Those songs which share track four and the rest of the CD have been debated upon.

EXIT RYAN MOORE

Ryan Moore has left the Legendary Pink Dots. A message from Ryan can be found here.

“After nearly 10 years of intensive recording & touring activity, I have left the Pink Dots. The reason is that I really feel the need at this time to move on to new experiences & challenges in life and music. I’m pleased with the significant body of recorded and live work we accomplished over the past 10 years & I can think back on some great moments which were had in the studio, onstage, travelling on some distant highway / sonic tangent etc – none of which would’ve been possible without the support of YOU, the fans of the Pink Dots. All in all, it has been a life enriching experience.

My departure shouldn’t have an effect, other than the lineup change, on upcoming LPD european tour plans & you can bet, in one form or another, the Pink Dots will continue to keep making their unique music for some time to come.

For anyone who is interested, you can check on my upcoming projects as they arise, most likely at: www.twilightcircus.com

kind regards

ryan moore
So, thank you!”

WHAT’S IN THE PIPELINE?

  • LEGENDARY PINK DOTS

A PERFECT MYSTERY as a double vinyl release. With (sorry…) a bonus 4th side and (sorry) limited to 500 copies.

STAINED GLASS Volume 2. Double CD release taking in the cassette albums “Apparition”,”Basilisk” and “Atomic Roses.” We are working on the original tapes to maximise quality.

CHEMICAL PLAYSCHOOL 11,12 and 13.A 3 x CD box set.A statement of intent, and hopefully the release that will quell rather unreasonable fears that the Dots are considering dropping into a lower gear or calling it a day.Music and artwork is finished but release will probably not occur until after the summer.

Reissues of all titles from the back catalogue from “The Lovers” through to “Malachai” by Soleilmoon in USA and SPV in Poland. Artwork for Polish editions is unique and very special with Polish translations of the lyrics. Alas, we still have no distribution in Western Europe but a series of compilations is planned by a small Italian label focussing the releases which are hard to find in this part of the World.

FAQs
A new section has been added to the website, a Frequently Asked Questions place where the band themselves have answered some of the questions that have been asked a lot as of late. This has no overlap from the FAQ from the Cloud-Zero mailing list, so please take a look as there’s newsworthy items in there.

LOVE AND LOUD COLOURS
Production has been slightly delayed on the Edward Ka-Spel lyric collection book. The illustrated book will also include a CD-single featuring two exclusive Edward Ka-Spel creations. Due Spring 2001, the collection will be available mostly through mail order. If supplies last, copies will be available at select Legendary Pink Dot appearances following the publication.

Advance reservations are being accepted now, with payment requested for just before the book goes to press (hopefully by December). For more information, and to place your reservation, please go to: www.slip.net/~apologia/loveloud.htm.

ONLINE UPDATE – NOVEMBER 7, 2001

“CASTE o’ GRAYE SKREEENS”

New brand new Edward Ka-spel solo album album entitled “Caste o’ Graye Skreeens” has now been released by TEKA / World Serpent. (the record is not yet on the World Serpent website, but it’s been confirmed that they have it in stock). The album consists of two tracks, one of them split into “11 or 12” sections. The CD is a digipak, “My first” says a proud Edward.

SINCE THE LAST UPDATE….

Beta Latcam Ring Recordings have released “A Perfect Mystery” on vinyl, and the russian Teargarden compilation “For Those Who Walk With the Gods” has seen the light of day. Soleilmoon has also re-released the classic Legendary Pink Dots album “Island of Jewels” from 1986.

THE DOTS AND THE CURRENT SITUATION

“To put it mildly, it has been a traumatic year so far. Unexpected and unwelcomed changes in the Dots’ line-up could not have occurred at a more awkward time, and it meant a hectic, nervous preparation for the European tour. Having said that, the later shows felt particularly joyful and now the debate concerns whether the band actually needs to expand …or not.

Recordings for the next LPD album begin in the Autumn, and there are tentative plans to work with a drummer, a cello player and even a brass band. Whatever happens, the Dots plan a return to USA and Canada next Summer.

Slowly the band is recovering from what seemed to be quite a crisis at the beginning of the year. The disappearance of so much of our back catalogue for 2-3 years indeed put us in trouble (as you are aware, there are many mouths to feed at Chez Dots), but a big thank you to Soleilmoon, SPV Poland and Beta Lactam Ring Records for putting things back together.

“Sing while you may”
