A hotel room in Denver and The Silverman and myself are packing for the long flight home after a delightful, but all too short, stay in the USA.

It’s a time when live shows even for the Pink Dots are becoming scarce, while solo outings (like this one ) are strictly “invitation-only”. No complaints – it’s a rough spell for almost everyone right now- but it does seem to be a time when it’s wiser to focus on recording as the road appears to be a little blocked for the smaller bands in 2012.

Nevertheless, three shows are planned for the days ahead and I hope some readers of this missive will be able to attend.

Spring is here and in this part of Europe, the cruel Winter was brutal but mercifully brief. For The Pink Dots, it has been about writing and recording new material and already the vault is bursting. We shall unveil the parts that send the shivers down down our spines.

No doubt about it, Europe felt like a wounded continent as we sped along the highways, watched karaoke on the ferries and played for our suppers on the last tour. However, there was plenty of elation too as the band just felt so damn good onstage night after night. Still it all feels like a voyage of discovery, and after 30 years that’s golden. Keep your eyes peeled as we may well be in your neighborhood soon.

2012 – FEAR NOT MY LOVLIES

LPDs plan a small tour which we hope will take in Italy, Switzerland and South Germany in April. Russia is also on the calendar for the Fall. For a fully fledged LPDs tour of the USA and Canada ,the target is Spring 2013. However, EK and The Silverman may well make an appearance as part of a package with the wonderful Orbit Service and Dead Voices on Air in Denver and perhaps a couple of other cities in May 2012. August the 4th and it’s raining. This is hardly surprising as the summer of 2011 has been so wet and miserable it seems like this corner of Europe is being punished for it’s all-round bad attitude over the last few years. Nevertheless I want frozen orange juice and lazy deckchairs or, in fact, ANYTHING better than this.

Thanks to all who turned up for our tour! We enjoyed it – especially the last two shows in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Strange to think that we’ve now visited Russia five times since the year 2000 when it would have been virtually impossible in the not so distant past.

Anyhow, time to look ahead and some special events are on the horizon. First is the Nijmegen Underground Festival at The Lux theatre on May 18. For this show The Dots will perform the psychedelic audio plays “Katrina” (as can be found on the ’30 Year Itch’ release) and a new work, ‘The Creature that tasted sound”. Also on the bill are long term Dots’ friends and favourites, The Use of Ashes and Beequeen. It really is worth traveling for.

On June 10, The Dots play at Queen Elizabeth Hall on The South Bank in London on the first day of The Meltdown Festival, curated by Ray Davies. On a spectacular night, the mighty Crazy World of Arthur Brown also appear. Continue reading May/June 2011 Newsletter →
