06/25/2008  June update- Plutonium Blonde is in production with ROIR!

Hmm… I’m late, but I have a reasonable excuse… So much happened in the last weeks that it seemed wise until all the scraps of information could be pieced together.

Happily the new Legendary Pink Dots’ album, “Plutonium Blonde” is now in production with ROIR, while “Dream Logik 2” could be here within 3 weeks through Beta-lactam Ring Records, complete with a full colour 10-panel fold-out cover and a bonus CD in the first limited run.

The vinyl version of Dream Logik will take longer – 4 LPs in a box (one exclusive) plus a CD of pieces realized immediately after the conclusion of the project. Somehow these pieces seemed to fit perfectly with the whole.

On a personal note, I’m still excited when something new comes out, but these new releases really set the pulse ticking that much faster.

As for touring we now have an outline for the [US Tour].

07/23/2008  Tour updates

Hello everyone,

As you have probably noticed, our MySpace page has a new look! A special thanks to Erik Schroeder for the great design.

There are a few changes to the tour schedule to tell you about…

EUROPE
* We’ve tentatively added a show in Luneberg, Germany on Aug 24.
* The Copenhagen show changed from Aug 26 to Aug 25.
* The Dots are still looking to find shows around the show in Munich on Sept 18. If anyone has venue suggestions or information, please respond here.

USA
* The Nov 2 show is in Orlando, FL and not Denver.
* We’re hoping for a few additions to the list of tour dates (Kansas, Boston, and maybe Albuquerque)… we’ll know in a few days!

Thanks to so many for all of your messages and comments this past week. It’s really great for the band to see the amount of support that is out there. And of course, feel free to send pictures. I will add them to the MySpace photo albums.

08/12/2008  August 2008 Newsletter

To say it’s busy here would be a gigantic understatement. Still, as The Netherlands seems to be in the midst of it’s annual monsoon then there is little temptation of switching the computer off and escaping to a beach. As I type, copies of “Dream Logik 2” are on the way to Europe while promotional CDs of “Plutonium Blonde” are also landing in mailboxes. The American tour is almost fully confirmed too.

09/19/2008  October 2008 Newsletter

The toothbrush is packed, the nerves are a little shredded, and I’m running the lines of the songs through my head over and over. Still, if all goes to plan, The Pink Dots will board the plane to Portland, Oregon on the 13th of October.

A week before that “Plutonium Blonde” minces it’s way into the high street stores. Believe me, a full scale US Tour is an opportunity to take it easy compared to the madness building up to it.. but no complaints from me. Quite simply The Dots are ready for it.

See the updated tour schedule here. We’re still looking for shows in these cities: Stockholm, Gothenburg, Strasbourg, Rennes, Bordeaux, and Lille. Please send information to l_khata (at) yahoo (dot) com.

Now for the new releases…..

1. LEGENDARY PINK DOTS/Plutonium Blonde CD… We think it’s a landmark… it will be available in early October(or at shows in Europe before). For those who do not mind waiting, we’re accepting pre-orders now at 15 euros (plus shipping).

2. EDWARD KA-SPEL/Dream Logik 2 CD….. We have the limited and luxuriously packaged double CD version at 20 euros but it’s already going down in numbers quite rapidly (postage inside Europe is 4 euros, 6 outside)

3. EDWARD KA-SPEL/Dream Logik 1-3 (4 x LP plus exclusive CD). A vinyl box set in an edition of 400 copies encompassing the entire Dream Logik project… Seriously beautiful. It will be available in October. Pre-order price is 55 euros (plus 12 for postage inside Europe and 18 outside). Do note, orders will be posted in December after the tour… Considering the initial response to this release it does look a little unlikely that we’ll have this for sale at European shows in the Spring.

4. EDWARD KA-SPEL/The Painted River of regrets (CDR)
Latest release on the Trademark of Quantity label consists of a collection of instrumental pieces to form a soundtrack for an imaginary movie which the dots vocalist had been working on over the last year. The intention was to have it ready for the last tour , but it over-ran by a day (apologies to all who came to the first 4 shows). A limited, personally signed edition of 399 copies. 15 euros (plus postage and packing). LATE ANNOUNCEMENT: This title will also be issued on vinyl early in 2009 in an edition of 100. Please wait for further details….

5. LEGENDARY PINK DOTS/ Chemical playschool 8/9 (2CD) .. Seems to have been out-of-print forever. Now reissued by Beta-lactam Ring as gloriously as you’d expect from this fine label. Imminent…22 euros (plus 4 for postage inside Europe and 6 outside).

6. The T-shirts. 3 of them and thank you to those who designed them and everybody else who entered the competition. Frankly we were blown away.

BEAUTIFUL THINGS THAT CAME OUR WAY

SVARTBAG
I was given this CD by a kind record store owner in Copenhagen, and what a beauty it is!!! Perhaps there are echoes of the sadly missed Godspeed You Black Emperor, but that comparison does this Danish band a disservice. Very much an individual sound to this CD on the Rump Recordings label. Charged, ecstatic. Utterly uplifting in these sepia times.

THE JOHN MORAN CORPORATION
Sometimes a CD comes along that makes you want to fling open the windows and scream about to the rest of the World (only that would of course interfere with the beautiful music). In the case of John Moran, it wasn’t one but 2 albums that turned up in the mail box.. Psychedelic in the broadest sense, tuneful, intelligent, happy, sad — don’t know where to stop. John is from Australia and his CDs are on the Puzzle Factory label. Seek him out, and buy his music — you will not regret this.

UN FESTIN SAGITAL
Title: Epitafio a la Permanencia

Imagine Christian Vander and Pierre Henry collaborating on a lost masterpiece when they were both at the peaks of their powers….. Imagine the master tape turning up in Chile.. Imagine it’s reputation preceded it and turned out to be EVEN BETTER…… Un Festin Sagital is a group I’d never heard of before, but I reckon I’ll spend the next few years hearing them again and again such is the depth of this debut. Purchase from blrrecords.com now before it vanishes.

ARIEL KALMA
Beta-Lactam Ring has given Ariels’ first insanely rare album a long overdue re-release and it’s a glory. Lots of beautiful bonus material as well. We loved this record for years at Chez Dots… Hearing it with this kind of clarity was akin to waking up after a long Winter’s sleep.

10/12/2008  November 2008 Update

Hmm, this is an unprecedented – and EARLY newsletter…. However there is enough happening to warrant it and tomorrow we’re set to fly to Portland at the crack of dawn.

A definitive list of shows can be found below. There are more confirmations for the European Tour slated for next April while Edward Ka-Spel’s small solo venture to Chile now seems to be certain barring disaster.

While the band is on tour the mail-order service has to be temporarily suspended as we have no way of sending packages in transit. It will resume early in December.

Note the new releases from LPD guitarist Martijn De Kleer and a standard reissue of LPDs’ long out-of-print CDs, “Chemical Playschool 8/9” and “Alchemical Playschool”.

Finally a big big thank you to our friends in Tromso at the Insomnia Festival – a wonderful, unforgettable experience.

10/23/2008  Notes from the road

I’m a little late posting our updates from the road. I’ll try and be a bit more prompt for the rest of the tour.

*****

So we’re maybe 45 minutes from the Windy City after 6 hours on the Rainy Highway and a couple of days in the snowy, desolate states.

Motel 6 should make us shareholders by now, while The Dots have largely avoided all the trans-fat aimed at us every time we stop (except for one uncharacteristic aberration from Marty).

We’ve seen trucks with “Jesus is Lord” emblazoned on them, a huge placard proclaiming “Outlaw Sodomy” in Nebraska (was it a service being advertized or was it just someone being uptight?), truckers and cowboys and cows and tumbleweeds tumbling and yes, we love it all.

America is beautiful, absurd and absorbing and, best of all,we love seeing our friends, old and new, as we travel from state to state.

My favourite show? I think last night in Minneapolis… A beautiful theatre with red carpets and the kindest people you could ever wish for. Still, so far I enjoyed just about everywhere, even Grand Island NE where I felt like a Martian.

Edward

*****

Hey there, want to say sorry to the guy from Trade Up Music for forgetting to put him on the guest list. He found me a rare power supply which i had left at home. Without it i would have had a major problem. So musicians, get your gear at Trade Up Music in Portland, OK?

And about the corn dog, i know i have sinned but i promised it won’t get worse than that.

Martijn

*****

We’re eight days in, yet it feels like we’ve been on the road a month…..such is time distortion on the road. They say space is curved – not in Nebraska it ain’t.

I’ve so many impressions with but a moment to savour them all,as we trundle through this land, and so many warm greetings from you all and to you all for supporting our endeavours.

Thanks: Bill for your raw revolution and tasty home grown apples; Chris and Heather for putting us up and putting up with us during those first jet-lag days.

Thanks also to the Sage Cafe in Salt Lake City whose dinners were pure soul-food for a band of veggie-vagabonds struggling to stabalise their tour rhythms.

It’s the end of the year and it could well be the end of an era too. Lisette has mailed her ballot….. trees lose their leaves and a bush is laid bare. Today is a sunshine day, as we arrive in Chicago.

Greetings,

Phil

12/10/2008  December 2008 Newsletter

If this December newsletter drifts becomes incoherent at any point then I will not apologize. After a truly delightful but very intense tour of USA, two of us ventured to Chile just 13 days ago. We played 3 shows there (2 in Santiago and one in Valparaiso) and were treated with such kindness and met so many new friends, the experience will live on until we leave this planet.

Santiago has just about most thriving truly “underground” music scene I have personally encountered in years. Centered around the excellent Un Festin Sagital, there are a myriad of bands and artists performing, recording and experimenting.

There is just such a deep quality to the music that demands more attention than I can provide in this newsletter introduction, but I’ll do my best to reveal more as time passes.

Certainly I’d move heaven and earth to see Un Festin Sagital play outside Chile. This is of the best live bands I have seen in my entire life.

Ah I could go on endlessly…but that jet lag keeps kicking in.

Here is a list of all shows coming up.

We’re looking for shows in these cities… can you help?

COMING SOON !! (1)

ULKOMAALAISET 1 (CD)
ULKOMAALAISET 2 (CD)

Both to be released in Beta Lactam Ring Records’ “Black” series.

An explanation….
Easter in rural Finland isn’t exactly the most exciting holiday.
Everything is closed, the few people that are normally there seem to vanish and even the mosquitos maintain a respectful distance.

Martin Heuser somehow found himself in Karis (also known as Karjaa for ,in Finland , most of the places have 2 names) with nothing to do.He had flown North from his birthplace in South Brazil to avoid military service and claim a spot at the delightful Larkkulla College- but at Easter 2007 he very much felt like an outsider .The college was virtually empty.

Likewise Edward Ka-spel (an Englishman) and Alena Boikova (a Russian) found themselves at the same place at the same time, anxious to celebrate the coming of Spring but not quite sure how to do it. A casual conversation over a bottle of Chilean wine, procured BEFORE the shops closed, revealed that Martin played classical piano.Ka-spel ,a little excited by this news, declared that the three should make an album.

In fact they made two. They will probably make another one at some time in the future. What else a poor foreign boy (or girl ) do in Finland? Ulkomaalaiset means “Foreigners” in Finnish. The name was decided upon in a truly democratic way as all found the word to be a beautiful one.

Martin Heuser:piano
Alena Boikova: Drums,percussion, electronics
Edward Ka-Spel:keyboards,electronics,small indescribable objects.

COMING SOON !! (2) (on Beta Lactam Ring Records)

The Unperceived Image’ holds two new tracks that each feature a
legendary guest vocalist. DAVID J (Bauhaus) and WINSTON TONG

transparent, yet warm instrumentation and gloomy atmosphere. Listen to
the songs on their MySpace page: www.myspace.com/attractor.

01/16/06: AN ANNOUNCEMENT FROM EDWARD KA-SPEL:

On Saturday, January 14, Erik Drost performed with the Legendary Pink Dots for the last time. Erik has decided to leave the band for personal reasons. His talent, style and enthusiasm brought fresh energy to the Pink Dots when he came aboard in late 2003 and he will be sadly missed. We wish him well in his endeavours and hope to hear more from him in the future.

Erik cannot be replaced, so we will not say that we are working on finding a suitable replacement for him. What we will say is that we will have another announcement for you shortly and that it’s going to be a very positive announcement.

01/29/06: WEB SITE UPDATES:

I am in the process of updating/cleaning up/archiving many, many areas of the Web site. While this is happening, you may notice a few weird glitches and files/pages that are temporarily disabled. One thing we are working on is moving the downloads to a different area within brainwashed.com. Those files will not be accessible for a short period of time. Keep checking this space for updates and tour/new album announcements.

01/30/06: WELCOME BACK, MARTIJN DE KLEER!

The Legendary Pink Dots are delighted to announce that Martijn de Kleer has stepped back in to the band. This will be Marty’s third spell with the band in fifteen years!

Marty will be featured on the next LPD recordings and will be joining the band on the North American tour, slated to begin in early June.

More details/announcements/tour dates are coming soon!

02/15/06: EDWARD KA-SPEL SOLO SHOW IN AMSTERDAM:

Edward Ka-Spel will be performing at the Sugar Factory in Amsterdam on April 1, 2006. Tickets for this show will go on sale on February 20th. Here is the press release from www.electronation.nl:

On Saturday 1 April as part of Sugar FactoryÕs one-year anniversary weekend Electronation in co-operation with KinkFM proudly presents:

Darkness Is Enlightening: An Evening Dedicated to Your Other Side.

The evening will be separated into two parts. The first part of the evening is A Tribute To Balance and incorporates a release party of the latest edition of the fabulous X-rated CDÕs. This particular one called X-rated: The Dark Files is being released by SteamSounds music and is dedicated to and inspired by the late Balance.

[The CD] is a brilliant collection of exclusive and non-explosive dark industrial music by some of the worldÕs most acclaimed industrial artists such as: Black Sun Productions, Peter Christopherson, Aural Rage (Danny Hyde), Monoton, Markant, Legendary Pink Dots, Scanner, Steven Stapleton and Raison d’tre and many others.

From the great collection of artists that are included on the X rated CD, we have chosen to invite Edward Ka-Spel of the Legendary Pink Dots to perform live – along with the highly-acclaimed children of darkness: Black Sun Productions. Best known for their collaboration with Coil in some of the band’s most iconoclastic live installations and for their Plastic Spider Thing, a cycle of 23 extreme performances, Black Sun Productions’ wicked boys released in 2005 two proper albums, OperettAmorale and Visions ov Anarcadia, both warmly received by the public and critics alike.

The doors will be open at 20:00 and performances will start around 20:45.

For the second part of the evening we have chosen to continue with Drama Society, who are Luca Baldini and Sergio Ricciardone, both talented producers, DJs and performers hailing from Italy. Their first 2 singles Liars and Crying Herowere released on Turbo Recordings and following TiefschwarzÕs use of the Tiga mix of Crying Hero on their mix album Misch Masch, Drama Society were immediately signed to Fine Records. The subsequent singles – Accident andCrescendo – were released in 2005 and gained praise from Tiga, Tiefschwarz, Laurent Garnier, Ellen Alien and Headman amongst others.

Last year Luca spent 4 weeks with the Pet Shop Boys, arranging and programming part of their forthcoming new album and Sergio and Luca spent their time gigging in places such as Montreal, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, Berlin, London, Rome, Milan, Turin, Bologna, Lausanne and Hamburg as well as writing and recording their debut album for release later this year. Supported by our own DJ Dion and DJ Nuno dos Santos, for visuals we have chosen to work with the talented VJ Snow.

The second part of the evening starts at 23:00 and finishes at 05:00.

04/02/06: NEW LYRICS / RELEASE NEWS:

Lyrics for the track No Matter What You Do from Your Children Placate You From Premature Graves:

Jesus loves the little children even when they torch the cat. Jesus loves the little cat that flies then tortures this and that. Jesus loves yea, that which stings. Yea, that which stinks. Yea, look! No fingers!!! Jesus just loves everything. We do not deserve him.

Jesus loves the man who takes his name then wields it as a curse. Jesus loves the man who fakes his pain then flaunts it, lines his purse. Jesus loves his wife, the wise guy, shy guy and the sleazy shyster. Jesus don’t steal pearls from oysters.
It would be beneath him.

We do not disturb him. We do not deserve him. We are so unworthy of his endless mercy.

04/06/06: ALCHEMICAL PLAYSCHOOL AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER FROM SOLEILMOON:

Alchemical Playschool, which will be released on May 8, is now available for pre-order from Soleilmoon!

Alchemical Playschool is easily one of the most unusual Legendary Pink Dots albums ever released. Based on the double CD Indian Soundscapes, released in 2004 by Soleilmoon, these recordings are best enjoyed with a cold glass of Bhang Ki Thandai, following which the operation of heavy equipment or motor vehicles is strongly discouraged. Yes, this a trippy, psychedelic album, in the tradition of earlier Chemical Playschool albums, but itÕs been dusted with magical powders from The Orient, making it an altogether different experience from its predecessors. As experimental and esoteric works go, this is the bandÕs definitive work. The album was born two years ago, following the conclusion of the DotsÕ last North American tour. Edward Ka-Spel met with Soleilmoon owner Charles Powne, who had recently returned from a stay in India. Charles gave Edward a copy of his Indian Soundscapes 2xCD, and invited him to take the material and use it in a new Dots recording. The resulting music borrows lightly from the source material, deftly blends it with the bandÕs signature electronic wizardry, and distills a potent brew redolent with the aromas of saffron, cardamom and flowers. We think youÕll find it both irresistable and unforgettable.

Alchemical Playschool is limited to 400 hand numbered copies, presented in a stunning soapstone box. The Legendary Pink Dots ÒtridentÓ logo has been carved into the cover in intricate detail (Note from Lisa: Yes, it’s really on there – looks gorgeous, too!). The contents of the box include an eight page booklet, a numbered card, and of course the CD, packed in a cloth bag screen printed with the Sanskrit translation of the bandÕs famous slogan. A second edition may be released at an unspecified date in the future, but in completely different packaging. Sing while you may!

04/10/06: FRAGMENTS OF ILLUMINA 2 X LP:

Beta-lactam Ring Records will be releasing Edward Ka-Spel’s solo albumFragments of Illumina as a double vinyl extravaganza with an extra side of bonus material. This edition will be limited to 300. Stay tuned for more details.

We will be selling this guitar via an e-mail auction. Because it is a vintage guitar, the starting bid is USD $2,000 (not including shipping costs). Bids will be taken for one month (through May 3, 2005). At the end of the one-month auction period and upon receipt of payment (including shipping costs), Martijn will ship the guitar to its new owner in its original case. He will include an autographed solo CD and will also autograph the guitar upon request. At the end of the auction period, payment can be submitted online via PayPal. Cash, bank transfer or credit card payment will be accepted.

Martijn de Kleer has found a buyer for his vintage guitar. Thanks so much to everyone who contacted him!

05/25/05: HELP WANTED + TWO CDS EDWARD KA-SPEL WOULD LIKE YOU TO AVOID:

Edward has asked me to get the word out that he’s trying to nail down shows in Scandinavia for the LPDs 25th Anniversary tour and, as always, he could use any tips anyone out there may have for sympathetic promoters or venues in this region. He adds that this time around, it may be necessary for someone in Gothenburg to actually try to approach venues on behalf of the band as clubs in this area don’t typically respond to e-mails.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. If you can help, please e-mail me.

On a “less savoury note,” Edward has asked that I pass along to friends and fans that for several months, he has been trying to get in touch with Silver Stars, for whom he contributed vocals to a track called “Saturn’s Rings.” Their CD Tripping Louder Attitude and their MCD Saturn’s Rings are both being promoted using Edward’s name as a selling point. In fact, on the main promo page for the releases, the band is even listed as Silver Stars featuring Edward Ka-Spel.

This is particularly offensive as despite several attempts by Edward to get in touch with this band, no one has responded to his e-mails, accounted to him in any way, or even provided him with promotional/complimentary copies of the release, though his name is obviously being used to sell the CDs.

Of course the choice is up to each individual fan, but at the present time, we are asking that people DO NOT BUY THESE RELEASES BY SILVER STAR (from anyone!) until they have accounted to or at least responded to Edward.

Interestingly, it is believed that this project is tied in heavily with the shadowy figure known as “Max from Italy” who was behind the difficult-to-obtain-and-often sought-after LPD release Synesthesia. (I was told by Edward some time ago that eventually, a reissue will surface – perhaps on vinyl).

Unfortunately, no accounting has ever been settled for that release either, though in fairness, a good number of complimentary copies of the Synesthesia album were given to LPDs to sell via mail order and at the merchandise tables when the album was released a few years ago. Regardless, something’s amiss. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

05/30/05: NEW EDWARD KA-SPEL SOLO ALBUM RELEASE AND ART CONTEST:

The next Edward Ka-Spel solo release comes to us via Canada’s Piehead Records. It’s called Fragments of Illumina and has been in the works for quite some time now. All tracks are previously unreleased and total time is approximately 50 minutes.

Tracklist:
1. My Space
2. The End of Everything (Part One)
3. The End of Everything (Part Two)
4. Sticks & Stones
5. Yet Another Fragment

Piehead is having a design contest for the album cover:

Piehead Records is pleased to announce that we will soon be releasingFRAGMENTS OF ILLUMINA, a full-length album of brand new solo material by Edward Ka-Spel.

This album was originally planned to be part of Piehead’s 2004 monthly limited edition CDR series, but we had to bump it from the roster due to some scheduling issues. The album will now be a one-off non-series release, still a limited edition on professionally pressed CDR, but the edition size will be larger than the originally planned 211 copies. The edition size and other details will be announced when the album goes on sale in mid-June.

Note that we are NOT yet accepting pre-orders for this album, so please don’t write asking if you can reserve a copy. I’ll make an announcement here when we are ready to receive orders.

To make this release more special, we have decided to hold a design contest for the album cover. The image that Edward has in mind for the cover is…

“A floating rock in space, with a flag at half-mast.”

Any and all visual representations of this image are welcome. Once you have created an image, please send a small but clear JPEG or GIF of your artwork to kaspel [at] pieheadrecords [dot] com (or post it somewhere and send us a link).

All submissions must be received by JUNE 15TH, 2005. The winner will be contacted as soon as we have reviewed all of the entries and chosen a favourite, at which point they must provide us with a higher quality image file that is suitable for printing.

The winning submission will receive a signed copy of FRAGMENTS OF ILLUMINA, as well as a second unique CDR made for you personally by Edward himself.

Thanks in advance to all contributors, we look forward to seeing your submissions!

06/24/05: FRAGMENTS OF ILLUMINA COVER ART CONTEST – WINNING DESIGN CHOSEN:

This just in from Piehead Records:

The artwork contest for our upcoming Edward Ka-Spel album, Fragments Of Illumina, closed last week, and we had dozens of great entries to choose from. It was tough narrowing it down to just one, but we finally managed to choose a favourite. Congratulations to Garvin Tieseler for his winning submission:

The reduced image above doesn’t really do it justice, so just wait until you see the finished product (not to mention the beautiful back cover and interior & disc graphics that Garvin also designed)!

Piehead expects to be able to start shipping the discs within the next few weeks.

07/10/05: JARBOE “MEN” ALBUM / MORE LPD TOUR DATES CONFIRMED:

MEN ALBUM: Six years in the making, the release of Jarboe’s highly-ancicipated album The Men, which features Edward Ka-Spel and a plethora of other diverse artists (some of the most talented and respected in the business!) is imminent. I have heard Edward’s contribution (though perhaps not the final mix) and the blending of these two vocal and artistic talents is mesmerizing – well worth the wait!

PRESS RELEASE: THE MEN

Six years in the making, The Men as revealed via twenty tracks on this double CD showcases the impressive range of Jarboe’s artistry. The Men brings together an eclectic global roster of artists from diverse musical backgrounds whose only commonality is Jarboe herself. Conceptually, The Men examines the dreams of a woman and the exploration therein of her identity through males eyes.

Featured artists include veteran performers Blixa Bargeld (Einsterzende Neubauten, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds), Alan Sparhawk (LOW), Iva Davies (Icehouse, Master & Commander soundtrack), Jim Thirlwell (Foetus), Edward Ka-Spel (Legendary Pink Dots), Paz Lenchantin (A Perfect Circle, Zwan, RTX), William Faith (Faith & The Muse, Tweaker), Monica Richards (Faith & The Muse), David Torn (David Bowie, David Sylvian, SPLaTTeRCeLL…), Chris Connelly (Revolting Cocks, Ministry, Pigface), David J (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets, The Jazz Butcher), Percy Howard (Bill Laswell, Meridiem), Steve Von Till (Neurosis), Joseph Budenholzer (Current 93, Backworld, Lydia Lunch), Mika Vainio (PanSonic, Bjork remix), Kris Force (Amber Asylum), as well as : James Izzo (Thread), Blind Michael Bradley (Myssouri), Diana Obscura (The Living Jarboe), and new Jarboe collaborator: songwriter/guitarist Nic Le Ban.

The gorgeous image above is the cover of the album, which can be pre-orderedhere. The anticipated release date is October, 2005.

More changes to the schedule will be posted shortly.

Now the good news! There will be two special live CDRs available on the European leg of the tour. The first is a live recording of the Edward Ka-Spel/Silverman show in Basel on September 30, 2005. This was a remarkable show that featured a lot of new material. The CDR includes four tracks from the Silverman (accompanied onstage by Edward), who showcases some of his new tracks along with material from Requiem Settings. Edward also performed new songs.

Toby Dammit opened the show with what Raymond Steeg calls “an incredible set of weird electronics.” He also says “All you people check this out. It’s great stuff!”

The second CDR is a get-it-while-it’s-there limited release of a show in Montepellier, France in 1994. Raymond calls it “one of the great shows from that time featuring Ryan and Martijn. It’s a soundboard recording mixed with two ambience microphones and features great artwork done by Erik Drost with his ancient old computers.”

Niels van Hoorn and Richard van Kruysdijk’s project Strange Attractor will releaseRorschach II in December 2005. This is the obvious successor to the first Strange Attractor LP. Again, it shifts from jazzy ambience to clicky pop songs to post-rock to experimental “whatever” and is always on the edge of contemporary production.

Rorschach II features Edward Ka-Spel, Richard Sinclair and Marie-Caludine Vanvlemen (Sonar Lodge) as guest vocalists. Fans of Robert Wyatt will recognize Sinclair from his performance on Wyatt’s legendary Rock Bottom album.

As an extra bonus, Rorschach II features a Twilight Circus remix of the title track from the first LP!

12/12/05: A MESSAGE FROM THE LEGENDARY PINK DOTS:

We apologise to anyone who turned up the Elk Club on the outskirts of Berne, Switzerland in order to see the Dots last Friday, 9 December. Basically the club had no PA, had made no arrangements for the band to stay anywhere (we were initially offered the floor of the club to sleep on), or even any kind of guarantee for payment, despite a previous agreement. We are still mystified as to just why we were approached to play this show in the first place.

This is only the second show the band has ever cancelled in 25 years due to poor conditions – but never before have we encountered something quite as bad as this.

–LPDs 12.12.2005

12/17/05: WAVE GOTIK TREFFEN FESTIVAL:

The Legendary Pink Dots will be performing at Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig in 2006. The exact date of their appearance has not yet been confirmed, so keep checking this page for more information as we have it.

Don’t forget to catch the band in Arnhem on January 14th when they play at Goudvishal. Beequeen will open that show.

01/23/04: LEGENDARY PINK NEWS: BIRTHDAY WISHES AND A NEW ALBUM IN THE WORKS!

Today, The Legendary Pink Dots are taking a break from their busy recording schedule to celebrate Edward Ka-Spel’s birthday! Happy Birthday, Edward!

Fans will be pleased to know that the band is currently recording a brand new studio album, which is expected sometime this spring. We are also in the earliest, earliest, earliest planning stages of the North American tour, which will follow the release of the new album. Keep checking this space for details!

01/30/04: “9 LIVES TO WONDER” 2 X LP UPDATE

Keeping the pace with the buzz already generating since we announced tentative plans for the Pink Dots’ return to North America for an extensive tour this spring, 9 Lives To Wonder, the newest LPD-related offering from Canadian-based labelFlesh Eating Ants, is entering wider distribution. You can now order this release from The Terminal KaleidoscopeSoleilmoonBeta-lactam Ring Records, and of course the Ants themselves.

Label Press Release: When The Legendary Pink Dots first unveiled their euphonious album 9 Lives To Wonder in 1994, few could have foreseen that this journey into the softer side of the band’s psyche would withstand the test of time to become what is one of the best-loved and highly-regarded works in their prolific history.

Like many of their releases from this time period, 9 Lives To Wonder aggressively explores the darker and more melancholy side of the Pink Dots, but it is also renowned for its strikingly romantic undertones and some of vocalist Edward Ka-Spel’s most whimsical lyrics to date.

Though many CD editions of this recording exist, Flesh Eating Ants Records is extremely proud to present 9 Lives To Wonder on vinyl for the very first time. In typical Flesh Eating Ants fashion, nothing has been held back. 9 Lives To Wonderhas been issued as a 220-gram double LP, pressed on magnificently coloured audiophile vinyl, and housed in a stunning full-colour gatefold sleeve featuring the original cover artwork in a much larger magnitude, which showcases the beauty of the original piece. The album also includes an insert with lyrics, and is limited to just 404 hand-numbered copies. Some of the pieces have been slightly re-worked by Edward Ka-Spel, who has carefully layered and optimized the original musical textures and interludes to maximize the listening experience. 9 Lives To Wonderalso includes an entire side’s worth of exclusive bonus material and a new version of a beloved classic.

So sink into soft nether worlds of enthrallingly kaleidoscopic melodies, transcendental ponderings, and wistfully languishing balladry as you absorb the album’s underlying messages of peace, optimism and hope.

02/02/04: SITE UPDATE:

03/25/04: IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM EDWARD KA-SPEL REGARDING WORLD SERPENT DISTRIBUTION:

It is with regret that the Legendary Pink Dots and Edward Ka-Spel feel that is now necessary to make it public that we have severed all ties with World Serpent Distribution.

World Serpent last accounted to the band over a year ago, and made one partial payment under duress last August. While we appreciate that everybody involved in “independent” music is experiencing difficulties in a financially unstable climate, World Serpent’s failure to answer even the politest question is simply unforgivable.

Plans are already underway for the reissue of Chemical Playschool Volumes 8/9, with the other two titles on the World Serpent roster to follow later this year.

In the meantime we request that distributors, shops and individuals do not buy our titles directly from World Serpent. – Edward Ka-Spel

03/31/04: NORTH AMERICAN TOUR: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

In an effort to preserve my sanity (and to make sure everyone who e-mails me with the following questions has a proper response), I am posting the answers to the most common questions popping up in my mailbox these days. Please read them carefully. If you have any further questions, please contact Lisa.

Question: I would like to videotape The Pink Dots show in my city. Who should I contact?

Answer: We will not allow video recordings. If you are a television station and would like to film the band, please contact Lisa. Otherwise, please do not bring any video recording equipment to the venue.

Question: I would like to make an audio recording of the concert. Is this okay?

Answer: We have no objections to audience recordings being made from small, unobtrusive hand-held devices. We will not allow you access to the sound board/F.O.H. console. We will not allow you to host your recordings on your personal website or server and we ask that you do not offer them for download on P2P networks such as (but not limited to) soulseek, grokster or kazaa. It goes without saying that placing the recordings on E-bay will not impress us. Private trades between friends, fans and collectors are perfectly fine so as long as no money changes hands. Please do note that if a specific venue has a strict no-recording policy, we cannot and will not intervene if you are asked by venue staff to stop recording or if you are denied access to the venue due to your audio equipment.

All of that said, we do like to offer live tracks for download here at the website. If you are able to get a nice audio recording and will be so kind as to send me a copy, I will greatly appreciate it.

Lisa Amend
P.O. Box 25327
Colorado Springs, CO 80936-5327

Question: Can I take pictures of the band while they are performing?

Answer: Still photography is permitted. Please try to refrain from using a flash whenever possible as flash photography can be distracting to the band and other members of the audience. As noted above, if a specific venue has a strict no-photography policy, we cannot and will not intervene if you are asked by venue staff to stop taking photographs or if you are denied access to the venue because you have a camera. If you are a journalist and will be photographing the band for an article or review, we do appreciate copies of the photos to use for our own promotional purposes. Full credit will be given to the photographer every time we use a photo. If you are interested in photographing the band for a magazine review, please contact Lisa.

Question: I am under 21, but the show you are playing in my city is 21+. Can you get me in?

Answer: Unfortunately, no. If the venue itself wants to make arrangements for you to attend a show, it is their prerogative and it’s fine with us…but the band, tour manager/merchandiser, and sound engineer cannot intervene on your behalf. We do understand and appreciate that not all of our fans are over the age of 21, but we have no control whatsoever over specific venue age restrictions.

Question: My band wants to open for The Legendary Pink Dots when they play in my city. Who should I contact?

Answer: Please contact Lisa. I forward all of your requests to the individual promoters in each city. It is their prerogative whether or not local bands open for national/international touring acts. If a promoter wishes to put you on the bill with The Legendary Pink Dots, either they or I will be back in touch as soon as possible. EDITED TO ADD: Sending your request directly to our booking agent will only result in our booking agent immediately e-mailing the request right back to me so I can discuss it with the promoters. Therefore, we ask that you do not contact the booking agent directly.

Question: I see you have booked a date at “X” venue in “X” city. I think my club/venue would be a better match for The Pink Dots. Who can I contact to see if you will move the show to my club/venue?

Answer: Thank you for your interest and enthusiasm. We do appreciate your desire to book The Pink Dots. If you are really and truly interested in booking LPD at your venue, however, PLEASE do not wait until we have already started to announce tour dates. Send Lisa a list of your club specs, contact information, sound capabilities, and the names, e-mail addresses and phone numbers for club promoters/club management. I forward all of this information directly to our booking agent so it is readily available to him when he begins routing a tour. You would be amazed at how many people I never, ever hear from again when I ask them for this information!

04/02/04: AN AVALANCHE OF UPDATES:

In these increasingly busy, overly-caffeinated days before we embark on the North American tour, there is so much going on at Chez Dots it has become apparent that I will be updating the NEWS section of this website pretty much every other day for the next month or so. In other words, just try to keep up with us now! Away we go:

TOUR NEWS: The spring tour is about 95% confirmed. Our booking agent is working diligently to nail down the remaining shows as I type. We have just confirmed our dates in Denver, Ft. Lauderdale, and Phoenix. An updated tour schedule appears at the bottom of today’s marathon missive. Note that this will be the first time The Legendary Pink Dots have played only one night in Denver since 1995. It’s an all-ages show, it’s the last night of the tour and it’s one night only, so BRING EVERYBODY!

EDWARD KA-SPEL SOLO ALBUM MP3s: In other exciting news, Edward Ka-Spel’s solo album Pieces of 8 – yes, yes, I know – we all thought it was called Pieces of Infinitytoo, but upon closer inspection of recent e-mails from Edward, both Beta-lactam Ring and I slapped our respective foreheads and withdrew our previous enthusiastic announcements. Anyway, it is indeed called Pieces of 8 though to be fair, the “8” really is laying on its side and looks just like an infinity symbol! Ah well…the important thing here is that we have MP3 samples from each and every track on the CD. To hear them, simply head to the Downloads page and click the links. BLRR strongly encourages people to pre-order this release from their website as the buzz is already spreading and copies are going fast! You don’t want to miss out, do you?

The sampler is available from BLRR and we should have copies of it for you at our merch booth as well. I know you’re dying to see it, so here’s the cover art:

TOUR FAQs: If you haven’t already done so, please take a few moments to read through the FAQs pertaining to the North American tour. I would really appreciate it.

STREET-LEVEL PROMOTIONS: Those of you who want to know how you can help promote the upcoming tour, please keep checking this space. As soon as my head stops spinning from this whirlwind of updating, I will be uploading a little page I built for the website where you will be able to download and print out fliers and find the information you are so desperately seeking! NORTH AMERICAN TOUR FAQs EDITED TO ADD THE FOLLOWING:

Question: My band wants to open for The Legendary Pink Dots when they play in my city. Who should I contact?

Answer: Please contact Lisa. I forward all of your requests to the individual promoters in each city. It is their prerogative whether or not local bands open for national/international touring acts. If a promoter wishes to put you on the bill with The Legendary Pink Dots, either they or I will be back in touch as soon as possible.

EDITED TO ADD: Sending your request directly to our booking agent will only result in our booking agent immediately e-mailing the request right back to me so I can discuss it with the promoters. Therefore, we ask that you do not contact our booking agent directly.

FURTHER EDITED TO ADD: Please do not send multiple e-mail requests to me. I have already stated if a promoter is interested in putting you on the bill, someone will be in touch with you as soon as possible. By sending multiple requests, you will only succeed in slowing me down further and making it that much more difficult for me to find your message in the ocean of e-mail churning away in my mailbox. I do appreciate your enthusiasm and The Pink Dots appreciate it too, but please keep in mind that multiple posts are completely counter-productive for the reasons stated above.

05/19/04: LET’S HIT THE ROAD AND ON WE GO

We are very, very excited about the North American tour! Lots of great buzz is circulating – we’ve scheduled lots of interviews for national and local print media and – dare I say it – The Whispering Wall is even seeing some airplay on several radio stations around the country! We’ll also be broadcasting our June 23 show at Cafe du Nord live as it’s happening – so keep your ears peeled!

It’s going to be a great tour and we are all looking forward to seeing all of you at the shows! Make sure to come and say hello to me at the merch booths.

A few final things before we jump in the van:

If you write or see a print review of one of our North American shows or the new albums, please send a copy to:

Lisa Amend
P.O. Box 25327
Colorado Springs, CO 80936-5327

If you take photos at the shows, we would really appreciate it if you would send copies to me at the address noted above. 300 dpi resolution photos of the band are ALWAYS requested and we ensure that full credit is given to the photographer if the photos are used on album releases or in print media.

A side note: PLEASE DO NOT E-MAIL ME ANY PHOTOGRAPHS UNTIL I RETURN FROM THE ROAD. My e-mail access will be very limited until mid-July.

So – until soon…off we go!

06/12/04: ATLANTA

The Atlanta show at Echo Lounge was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances outside of everybody’s control. Both the band and the Echo Lounge want to extend their apologies to everybody who came out for the show but were unfortunately turned away. LPD want to especially thank everybody who stuck around and bought merch from the group on the street. At this point, if there are still people who are in need of a refund, they need to conact the Echo Lounge at 404-681-3600. LPD are doing well and are sad they didn’t get to play, Atlanta’s always been a supportive town and LPD will definitely return there next tour.

The Legendary Pink Dots are preparing for their European tour which is slated to begin on October 13 at the Underground in Cologne. The Pink Dots also hope to play their first-ever shows in Finland, Latvia, Greece, Slovania and Estonia this year.

Edward has asked that fans with tips for clubs in the south of France or Slovania contact the band with information. You can use the contact form at this site or send an e-mail to me.

Also, the vinyl release of ROIR‘s All The King’s Men is imminent (release date is August 24). You can view the one-sheet here.

IMPORTANT: These will only be available directly from Brainwashed and not from the band or TEKA or any other retailer. They come personalized (yes, your name is written on it) since nobody wants these floating around on ebay…

To see part of the videos, you can go here. Both videos have been slightly updated/modified to include footage not featured in the online versions.

The 2 X LP version of All The King’s Men has been released by ROIR. Though there is no bonus material on this album, it will still make a spiffy addition to your LPD collection. The cover art is exactly the same as the CD release, only “bigger and more beautiful.” Though the album may not be listed on the ROIR website just yet, rest assured it is indeed available for purchase.

Beta-lactam Ring tells me that the 2 X LP version of Edward’s Pieces of 8 will start shipping on or around September 1. The LP features a bonus track called Wall of Fire as well as a poster and a signed and numbered insert. This release is limited to 333 copies.

10/04/04: STRANGE ATTRACTOR: NEW NIELS VAN HOORN / SONAR LODGE PROJECT TO BE RELEASED NOVEMBER 18:

Niels Van Hoorn and Richard van Kruysdijk (of Sonar Lodge) are pleased to announce their first release under the name Strange Attractor. Entitled Rorschach, the album will be officially released November 18 on the Music for Speakerslabel. Legendary Pink Dots fans will be able to purchase the album at the merchandise stand on the European tour prior to the release date.

From the label press release: “Out of a warm, acoustic jazz atmosphere springs forth a cold, sequenced synth pattern. ÔFull throttleÕ acoustic drums and harsh double sax frenzy turns into minimal glitches. Hip-hop style raw beats are underlined with eerie, floating acousmatic soundscapes. Touching the edges of jazz, ambient and electronica, Strange Attractor’s debut LP is a high-spirited exercise in associative music-making. Rorschach gives insight in how tracks evolve through different approaches of sound, while retaining a constant emotional depth and consistent, intense undercurrent. Although often placed in a moody, melancholic musical setting, it is the result of a joyful, inspired collaboration between Niels van Hoorn (The Legendary Pink Dots) and M4S resident Richard van Kruysdijk (Sonar Lodge). Guest appearances by vocalists Edward Ka-Spel (The Legendary Pink Dots) and Marie-Claudine Vanvlemen (Sonar Lodge) add even more colour to the rich sound palette of this vinyl-only release.”

You can listen to the album in RealAudio here and you can view the entire .pdf press release here.
