Notes

An earlier interpretation of “Kill it” appears on Cevin Key’s fine album “Ghost in each Room” under the title “A Certain Stukey”. Things conclude tragically there too.
Recordings made in Limburgia throughout 2010.
Love and peace to Chris, Heather, Pia, fellow Pink Dots, Cevin, Jesse, Amanda and Alena.

Blessed be, even when things seem darkest the light finds it’s way through the cracks. MALAZHEMNA -Edward Ka-Spel (BLRR)

2010 was a sad year and I guess it’s all there to hear in the margins of “The Minus Touch”- nothing overt as usual, but listen closely and…….
This is the version prepared for the double vinyl release on Beta-Lactam Ring Records. There are subtle differences with the cd edition and it has a long bonus track which would fill the fourth side of a handsome edition on wax. The vinyl IS still in the pipeline…consider this Bandcamp edition to be a taster for what is to come further down the road.

The regular cd version can still be found at edwardka-spel.bandcamp.com

Jesse Peper designed the cover(s) which are wood carvings. A big thank you to Chris at BLRR ,Phil and Alena for always being there. -Edward Ka-Spel (Bandcamp)

Press Release

New studio album with eye popping artwork by Jesse Peper in a custom made gatefold case. “V1 or V2“? Someone let loose the china doll from the cupboard again. Simply put, “The Minus Touch” is double plus good. A fantastic place for any LPD/Ka-Spel beginner to start and obviously, an essential for the Old Guard. Ka-Spel’s synthedelic song cycle has a flavour reminiscent of other aeons, though Edward’s manner of time travel seems to be to wreck himself before he Chyekks himself. Torch is only back-lit with the experimentalisms so at the forefront of recent solo efforts. The album could almost be considered “inside” by comparison. Oh, it’s messed up. But the devils are in the entrails, with most of the album belching forth beautiful, melodic coldwave electrolytes, into gasp by varying arrays of squelchy, sequenced rhythms and electronic arrhythmia. EKS, as ever, is bard to the bone.

Issued Oct 2010 to celebrate 30 years of life in the Dots together for Edward and Phil.

CD- limited edition of 400 copies made for sale on the Legendary Pink Dots’ 2010 US tour.

LP- Limited edition of 350 copies

Track one recorded live at The Extrapool, Nijmegen

Track two is a finished piece adapted from a live improvisation in Limburgia, August 2009

notes from Bandcamp:
“I knew a Katrina once……..”. Intended as a one-off performance for an audience of around 25 in The Dots’ home town of Nijmegen, “Katrina” became a piece de resistance for EK and The Silverman as they developed and expanded it over the years. However, on show here is that fragile first performance which began with Phil playing a record with a toy van that happened to have a cartridge attached to it’s underside and EK bidding the confused viewers to enter a New Orleans strip joint on a cold night in The Netherlands.A magical night really with Raymond Dijkstra and Timo Van Luik also on the bill. All 4 musicians improvised together at the end of the evening.
The second piece, “Slogans on a Cold Steel Canvas” is an abridged improvisation from the sessions that also provided much material for “Seconds Late for The brighton Line”.
Why is this album entitled “The 30 Year Itch?”Well, that’s how long it took to release a record under THE EK/Silverman banner. Thanks to Jese Peper for astonishing artwork and to Chris who released it for The Dots’ 2010 North American tour.

February 2017 release:
When “The 30 Year Itch” originally appeared, more cds were manufactured than covers. This is a special edition with HANDMADE covers designed by Dots’ members which appeared during the recent tour of North American. It’s an edition of 30 only…we brought 12 back to Europe, and each cover has a unique artwork, signed by Edward Kaspel and The Silverman.

Imagine a club packed like sardines in a can and three cameras hovering over the throng.  Possibly LPD’s finest, and most intense, visual document so far.

The show was recorded during the band’s November 13, 2009 passage at the Paris venue Le Klub. The Legendary Pink Dots played a two-night residency at Le Klub. It was this second night that was filmed by Johanna Barda and her camera team. The release of the DVD coincides with The Legendary Pink Dots’ 2011 European tour (which includes a night in Paris).

Notes

Packaged in gatefold sleeve with folded insert.

4xLP box set- limited edition of 350

Could this be The Legendary Pink Dots’ finest live document? Collected from shows
during a seriously spectacular tour of France back in 1994, there are chestnuts here which were never repeated. It’s a wild ride, but there are moments when you can hear a glass tear hit the floor.

***

From the insert:

“It started with a dusty box of DAT tapes. Perhaps it was years since anyone had listened to them despite the tantalising labels,”Paris #1”, “Paris #2”,”Paris #3”… Indeed it was Paris where the Dots played their first residency in 1992. However, these tapes were a document of the Dots’ one and only 3-nighter from the 10th to the 12th of March 1994 at the delightful Theatre Passage du Nord Ouest.  For this special occasion, HOURS of material were prepared and delivered in the certainty that quite possibly the same 300 or so people would turn up each night. Backing up that theory was the traditional shout of “champignons” from a mystery member of the audience on each of those nights. That clarion call actually began in Montreal a few years earlier, and we STILL hear it whenever we play in that city. It was ambitious. Sometimes the band was a little shaky but songs were played that were never heard again on a stage. Even so, some of the best shows happened outside Paris. In Marseilles for instance at Espace Julien a few nights later.  A big venue and a surprising large turnout for another French city that The Dots simply fell for. What you hear on this collection is all from that 1994 tour culled from shows in the French capital, Marseilles and Toulouse (alas, nobody remembers the name of that venue).

Even so, the Dots’ French connection goes back to 1985 when they played in Strasbourg at Le Bandit. After playing in more sedatory venues in The Netherlands and Switzerland, this introduction to a French audience literally stunned every member of the band. Basically the crowd listened in complete silence as the notes were played, and would erupt like Vesuvius at the conclusion of a song. That show lasted for well over 2 hours.

We still love France. The landscape, the culture and most of all, the people. We’ll be back.”

Raymond collated the material and then edited and mastered it July 2010 with assistance from The Silverman.  Sleeve artwork by Jesse Peper JESSEPEPER.COM.  Design and layout by Chris McBeth

Notes

This plain white CDr came packaged in a white sleeve with laser printed stickers on front and back. A paper insert contained the following text:

“Back in 1991, the practise was to take a musical idea, a chord sequence, a loop or sometimes just a sound and explore it’s potential. Much of the “Maria Dimension” album was borne out of this process.

The Pink Dots was a 4-piece following the departure of sound engineer Hans Meyer early in the recordings, and each member built his own rig in the four corners of Niels’ barn while guitarist bob Pistoor’s cassette recorder sat centre stage with the red button always pressed down.”

This CDR release captures the secrets of one of those cassettes. Of course there has been sound enhancement and serious editing – listening to it should be enjoyable not merely educational. It is dedicated to Bob whose guitar playing still brings tears to our eyes and who passed away much to soon.”

2016 Soleilmoon 2LP:
The extra sessions from the Dots’ “Maria Dimension” were previously released in 2015 as part of the “Complete Recordings” box set. This is the first time the vinyl edition is available separately. The eight tracks that make up “The Maria Sessions” were edited and sonically enhanced by Edward Ka-Spel from the original cassette recordings made at Klaverland, Netherlands, in 1990.

Summer of 1990 was glorious. The Dots entered the studio on a high as “The Crushed Velvet Apocalypse” seemed to be embraced by a broad audience. Our label “Play It Again Sam” had been generous with the budget for a new record, and there was a spirit of daring adventure firing up the band. For the first month we pretty much jammed…and Bob captured many of these sessions on a small tape recorder placed in the middle of the studio. Bob had dusted off his sitar, Niels unearthed his monstrous kettle drums, Phil surrounded himself with synths and samplers. If it hadn’t been for the mosquitos we might have played through the nights. Driving to the studio each day was a challenge in itself, as the last stretch was just dirt-track with huge potholes to navigate around. There were other obstacles too: sand drifts, Highland cattle that stubbornly blocked the path and Konik horses – partial to nibbling the plastic wing mirrors and rubber tyres on Phil’s car. But…most dangerous of all were the nature walkers – they would shake their fists and rant about it being a nature reserve, and that cars were not allowed (always choosing to ignore that one board which read “except for residents”). The albums are presented in a deluxe gatefold sleeve with tip-on printing, with lyrics, tracklist and band photo printed on the inner sleeves.

The records are presented in a deluxe gatefold jacket with tip-on printing, and include printed inner sleeves with notes about the recordings.
