04/03/05: MARTIJN DE KLEER’S VINTAGE GUITAR FOR SALE:

Former Dot Martijn de Kleer is selling his white 1966 Fender Jazzmaster guitar, which he purchased in New York City on his first LPD tour in 1992.

Since 1992, Martijn has played this guitar on every LPD tour he has been on, every solo album he has recorded and Pink Dots and Tear Garden record he appears on.

We will be selling this guitar via an e-mail auction. Because it is a vintage guitar, the starting bid is USD $2,000 (not including shipping costs). Bids will be taken for one month (through May 3, 2005). At the end of the one-month auction period and upon receipt of payment (including shipping costs), Martijn will ship the guitar to its new owner in its original case. He will include an autographed solo CD and will also autograph the guitar upon request. At the end of the auction period, payment can be submitted online via PayPal. Cash, bank transfer or credit card payment will be accepted.

To place a bid or to request further information, e-mail Martijn at tijnkleer (AT) hotmail (DOT) com and keep watching this space for updates.

GOOD LUCK!

04/22/05: LPD 25th ANNIVERSARY TOUR:

The Legendary Pink Dots will peform at L’Echangeur, Paris on 14th and 15th October. These are the opening dates of the Dots’ 25th Anniversary Tour and there will be a different set on each night with songs that span the band’s entire history. Edward Ka-Spel and The Silverman will also play solo sets at these shows. For more information on the shows at L’Echangeur or to make reservations for the shows, please contact the venue.

It is hoped that the tour will be expand to 100 shows all over the planet. As always, tips for sympathetic venues are always welcome – and greatly appreciated. If you know of an interested venue or promoter, please send me an e-mail or use the contact form on this website.

05/05/05: MARTIJN DE KLEER’S GUITAR – UPDATE:

Martijn de Kleer has found a buyer for his vintage guitar. Thanks so much to everyone who contacted him!

05/25/05: HELP WANTED + TWO CDS EDWARD KA-SPEL WOULD LIKE YOU TO AVOID:

Edward has asked me to get the word out that he’s trying to nail down shows in Scandinavia for the LPDs 25th Anniversary tour and, as always, he could use any tips anyone out there may have for sympathetic promoters or venues in this region. He adds that this time around, it may be necessary for someone in Gothenburg to actually try to approach venues on behalf of the band as clubs in this area don’t typically respond to e-mails.

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. If you can help, please e-mail me.

On a “less savoury note,” Edward has asked that I pass along to friends and fans that for several months, he has been trying to get in touch with Silver Stars, for whom he contributed vocals to a track called “Saturn’s Rings.” Their CD Tripping Louder Attitude and their MCD Saturn’s Rings are both being promoted using Edward’s name as a selling point. In fact, on the main promo page for the releases, the band is even listed as Silver Stars featuring Edward Ka-Spel.

This is particularly offensive as despite several attempts by Edward to get in touch with this band, no one has responded to his e-mails, accounted to him in any way, or even provided him with promotional/complimentary copies of the release, though his name is obviously being used to sell the CDs.

Of course the choice is up to each individual fan, but at the present time, we are asking that people DO NOT BUY THESE RELEASES BY SILVER STAR (from anyone!) until they have accounted to or at least responded to Edward.

Interestingly, it is believed that this project is tied in heavily with the shadowy figure known as “Max from Italy” who was behind the difficult-to-obtain-and-often sought-after LPD release Synesthesia. (I was told by Edward some time ago that eventually, a reissue will surface – perhaps on vinyl).

Unfortunately, no accounting has ever been settled for that release either, though in fairness, a good number of complimentary copies of the Synesthesia album were given to LPDs to sell via mail order and at the merchandise tables when the album was released a few years ago. Regardless, something’s amiss. Feel free to contact us with any questions.

05/30/05: NEW EDWARD KA-SPEL SOLO ALBUM RELEASE AND ART CONTEST:

The next Edward Ka-Spel solo release comes to us via Canada’s Piehead Records. It’s called Fragments of Illumina and has been in the works for quite some time now. All tracks are previously unreleased and total time is approximately 50 minutes.

Tracklist:
1. My Space
2. The End of Everything (Part One)
3. The End of Everything (Part Two)
4. Sticks & Stones
5. Yet Another Fragment

Piehead is having a design contest for the album cover:

Piehead Records is pleased to announce that we will soon be releasingFRAGMENTS OF ILLUMINA, a full-length album of brand new solo material by Edward Ka-Spel.

This album was originally planned to be part of Piehead’s 2004 monthly limited edition CDR series, but we had to bump it from the roster due to some scheduling issues. The album will now be a one-off non-series release, still a limited edition on professionally pressed CDR, but the edition size will be larger than the originally planned 211 copies. The edition size and other details will be announced when the album goes on sale in mid-June.

Note that we are NOT yet accepting pre-orders for this album, so please don’t write asking if you can reserve a copy. I’ll make an announcement here when we are ready to receive orders.

To make this release more special, we have decided to hold a design contest for the album cover. The image that Edward has in mind for the cover is…

“A floating rock in space, with a flag at half-mast.”

Any and all visual representations of this image are welcome. Once you have created an image, please send a small but clear JPEG or GIF of your artwork to kaspel [at] pieheadrecords [dot] com (or post it somewhere and send us a link).

All submissions must be received by JUNE 15TH, 2005. The winner will be contacted as soon as we have reviewed all of the entries and chosen a favourite, at which point they must provide us with a higher quality image file that is suitable for printing.

The winning submission will receive a signed copy of FRAGMENTS OF ILLUMINA, as well as a second unique CDR made for you personally by Edward himself.

Thanks in advance to all contributors, we look forward to seeing your submissions!

06/24/05: FRAGMENTS OF ILLUMINA COVER ART CONTEST – WINNING DESIGN CHOSEN:

This just in from Piehead Records:

The artwork contest for our upcoming Edward Ka-Spel album, Fragments Of Illumina, closed last week, and we had dozens of great entries to choose from. It was tough narrowing it down to just one, but we finally managed to choose a favourite. Congratulations to Garvin Tieseler for his winning submission:

The reduced image above doesn’t really do it justice, so just wait until you see the finished product (not to mention the beautiful back cover and interior & disc graphics that Garvin also designed)!

Piehead expects to be able to start shipping the discs within the next few weeks.

06/26/05: VIDEO LINK: LPDs LIVE AT ATLANTIK CAFE (FEBRUARY 2005):

Courtesy of the Atlantik Cafe and the Letournant video team, you can find a video clip of LPDs February 2005 performance at the Cafe here. Enjoy!

MEN ALBUM: Six years in the making, the release of Jarboe’s highly-ancicipated album The Men, which features Edward Ka-Spel and a plethora of other diverse artists (some of the most talented and respected in the business!) is imminent. I have heard Edward’s contribution (though perhaps not the final mix) and the blending of these two vocal and artistic talents is mesmerizing – well worth the wait!

PRESS RELEASE: THE MEN

Six years in the making, The Men as revealed via twenty tracks on this double CD showcases the impressive range of Jarboe’s artistry. The Men brings together an eclectic global roster of artists from diverse musical backgrounds whose only commonality is Jarboe herself. When the new prices are implemented, the actual cost of LPs and CDs will be less than they are now, but postage will be added. Watch this space for pricing information.

Please note that it will not be possible for the band to send packages from October 10 through November 20 while the tour is in progress.

10/10/05: CANCELLATIONS AND SPECIAL TOUR MERCHANDISE:

First, the bad news. Due to circumstances beyond the band’s control, the following shows planned for the 25th Anniversary Tour have been cancelled:

16 Oct: Avignon (F) – Le Theatre du Bourg Neuf
07 Nov: Poznan (PL) – TBA
08 Nov: Krakow (PL) – Re
17 Nov: Vienna (A) – Monastery
18 Nov: Budapest (H) – Marco Polo
09 Dec: Berne (CH) – ElkClub

More changes to the schedule will be posted shortly.

Now the good news! There will be two special live CDRs available on the European leg of the tour. The first is a live recording of the Edward Ka-Spel/Silverman show in Basel on September 30, 2005. This was a remarkable show that featured a lot of new material. The CDR includes four tracks from the Silverman (accompanied onstage by Edward), who showcases some of his new tracks along with material from Requiem Settings. Edward also performed new songs.

Toby Dammit opened the show with what Raymond Steeg calls “an incredible set of weird electronics.” He also says “All you people check this out. It’s great stuff!”

The second CDR is a get-it-while-it’s-there limited release of a show in Montepellier, France in 1994. Raymond calls it “one of the great shows from that time featuring Ryan and Martijn. It’s a soundboard recording mixed with two ambience microphones and features great artwork done by Erik Drost with his ancient old computers.”

11/29/05: NEW RELEASE FOR STRANGE ATTRACTOR:

Niels van Hoorn and Richard van Kruysdijk’s project Strange Attractor will releaseRorschach II in December 2005. This is the obvious successor to the first Strange Attractor LP. Again, it shifts from jazzy ambience to clicky pop songs to post-rock to experimental “whatever” and is always on the edge of contemporary production.

Rorschach II features Edward Ka-Spel, Richard Sinclair and Marie-Caludine Vanvlemen (Sonar Lodge) as guest vocalists. Fans of Robert Wyatt will recognize Sinclair from his performance on Wyatt’s legendary Rock Bottom album.

As an extra bonus, Rorschach II features a Twilight Circus remix of the title track from the first LP!

12/12/05: A MESSAGE FROM THE LEGENDARY PINK DOTS:

We apologise to anyone who turned up the Elk Club on the outskirts of Berne, Switzerland in order to see the Dots last Friday, 9 December. Basically the club had no PA, had made no arrangements for the band to stay anywhere (we were initially offered the floor of the club to sleep on), or even any kind of guarantee for payment, despite a previous agreement. We are still mystified as to just why we were approached to play this show in the first place.

This is only the second show the band has ever cancelled in 25 years due to poor conditions – but never before have we encountered something quite as bad as this.

–LPDs 12.12.2005

12/17/05: WAVE GOTIK TREFFEN FESTIVAL:

The Legendary Pink Dots will be performing at Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig in 2006. The exact date of their appearance has not yet been confirmed, so keep checking this page for more information as we have it.

Don’t forget to catch the band in Arnhem on January 14th when they play at Goudvishal. Beequeen will open that show.
