Some Pink Dotted activities:

It seems like a good moment to shine a light on Pink Dotted activities with the European Tour on the doorstep.

We had quite a few sad messages which lamented the fact that certain countries and cities are missing from the list. Admittedly London is tricky because of the curse that is Brexit but we ARE working on a possible show there in The Fall. If it happens we’ll do our best to combine with a show in Vilnius , a handful of dates in Poland, plus Copenhagen, Stockholm and quite possibly Helsinki.
Tips and pointers are very welcome if this small adventure is to happen.

Bless them, Bandcamp Friday has been revived and the first one (which is imminent) will be interesting but that’s as much information as I’m prepared to divulge right now.

A new project featuring myself , Frans De Waard and Peter Johan Nyland will be released shortly on Klanggalerie and it’s a little beauty. The combo goes by the name of ‘Dynasti’ and this first album is entitled ‘Quantum Primitiv’. New recordings are also underway with Sorry For Laughing.

Various vinyl releases are in the pipeline too including ‘ Faces In The Fire’ from Play It Again Sam – the label celebrates its 40th Anniversary with a reissue of its first ever release!
More to come….Meanwhile do pass the word on about the Tour coming up…it needs some help!

Autumn 2019 Newsletter

It was 39 years and one month ago today…..

Indeed that 40th Birthday of The Legendary Pink Dots is tangible now and while
we’ve never really been big on anniversaries at Chez Dots, to have simply ignored this one would have been somehow indecent. That’s why we’re starting things early with a 40th Anniversary Tour taking in North America throughout October and (hopefully) Europe in February. If anything goes wrong, put it down to a midlife crisis which may not be so bad after all as it implies that, one day, there will be an 80th Anniversary Tour. Continue reading Autumn 2019 Newsletter

THE LEGENDARY PINK NEWSLETTER 2019

A New Year, a newsletter.  May all who read this have a glorious 2019 however uncertain the World may seem right now.  Ultimately it all ends up in a history book, and who knows….maybe this worrying phase shall appear as a mere footnote that will have future generations laughing.

The Dots are planning for a year of intense activity.  Songs are written for a new album, and dedicated recording begins in earnest soon which we may well support with a Pledge Music campaign.

The reissue programme continues unabated with “The Golden Age” and “Malachai” appearing in full double vinyl glory through Metropolis Records in February and “Five Days/Five Days -The Instrumentals” and a much expanded and sonically enhanced “Come Out From The Shadows Volume 2” just released on cd by Cleopatra Records. Another European tour is slated for May and, if all goes well, we’ll be off to America in The Fall.

Listed below are new releases, some are already in stock, others fairly imminent. For availability, please make direct enquiries to qaspel@gmail.com or visit our Bandcamp site at: legendarypinkdots1.bandcamp.com

THE LEGENDARY PINK NEWSLETTER- AUTUMN 2018

As the long hot Summer recedes here in London, I can’t help thinking back to the glorious seasons  at the beginning of the 90’s when The Dots worked  on “The Maria Dimension”.
It’s predecessor, “The Crushed Velvet Apocalypse” was a highly composed affair and there was a strong desire in the band to throw the dice, press record and see what happened. Exotic instruments were strewn around the studio ; Bob Pistoor reserved a permanent corner for his sitar, kettle drums were hoisted up the stepladder….hell we even tried recoding the sound of the mosquitoes.

After a few weeks of improvising, the band took a month-long break. A rendezvous in a remote little town in Northern Greece named Floriana was organised between myself, Elke, Bob and his girlfriend ,Sabine. From there we wound our way in a small car to the coast where I wrote the lyrics to “Belladonna” paddling in the sea. Yes there is a photograph and no, we did not have a smartphone.

When we resumed recording back in The Netherlands, we gave shape to the hours of sessions, tried some dedicated thematic experiments (“Disturbance” ,”The Fourth Secret” ) and ultimately mixed “Maria Dimension” together with four pairs of arms stretched across the mixing desk twisting pots, pushing sliders, trying  to keep the levels out of the red but usually failing.

All these memories flooded back when I was remastering the “Maria Sessions” last week. The source of the album was a cassette in a box which nearly came to a premature demise due to the amount of plastic that could have either been waded through or tossed away a few years ago. Happily, we opted for the former option.

We’re down to the last handful of the gloriously packaged double vinyl edition now, and it felt timely to give it new life with an updated edition on cdr together with “The Maria Sessions Volume 2” which had previously only been available as a download. You can find this small corner of Legendary Pink history right here (EK 15.9.2018): https://legendarypinkdots1.bandcamp.com/album/the-maria-sessions-volumes-1-2

Mini news update

With the snow melting, the assorted diseases retreating and a faint whiff of Spring in the air, it feels like a prime moment to update about Legendary Pink activities.  Biggest news is that a new album is well underway, but we want to take at least until the end of the year to perfect it.  Over 20 songs are written so far and the amount of recorded material runs to several hours as we ponder over the way forward with several parallel projects.  It’s been a while since a dedicated European Tour so this too is being worked on and we hope to be able to announce shows for The Fall shortly.  Likewise, we do hope for Tear Garden shows – at least in North America.  More to follow about these plans later in Spring.  We also launched a reissue programme, working with several labels.  Metropolis Records plan a steady programme with the “main” Dots’ releases beginning in late Spring with “Shadow Weaver” and “Any Day Now” on vinyl and cd..both remastered and expanded. “Five Days” and “Come Out From The Shadows Volume 2” (expanded) are slated for official release through Cleopatra Records while Soleilmoon will be putting out “The Crushed Velvet Apocalypse” (expanded) as double vinyl.  It’s not everything…don’t be surprised by the odd surprises…

A time of great intensity in the peculiar universe of The Legendary Pink Dots. So much happening that perhaps it is best to approach the scenario chronologically….

Event number 1 occurs on March 17 in Athens at Etor’s Tenebrae De Profundis II Festival  which is being staged at the Gagarin 205 venue. A stunning event which also features long term Dots’ friends Nurse with Wound and Sol Invictus. Expect surprises.

Event Number 2 occurs on April 1 when the Dots travel to Lille for the “Musique au Musee” festival curated by Amikal Sonic at Les Gigottos Automates . Pierre Bastien is also playing at this festival!

In May Edward Ka-Spel embarks on a tour with Amanda Palmer and Patrick Q.Wright in support of their collaborative album, I Can Spin A Rainbow which will be released on cd and double vinyl by Cooking Vinyl in late Spring.
