Which album did I play more than any other… hard to say. Listened to a lot of records from the old Lovely Music label – David Behrman especially. I also recommend Razen – a wonderful Belgian band that reminds me of Third Ear Band (a long term favourite of mine)…

Summer 2014 Newsletter

 Firstly, there is this…….

109

The story went like this…….

“There are 10 people who run the World. They are all male and presidents, magnates and high priests all do their bidding. The 10 live in villas in the remotest part of the Himalayas- a place that absolutely NO – ONE would ever stumble upon. Although the 10 live in such close proximity to each other, they choose to have meetings in the back room of a small office in London. That’s where the decisions are made. That’s where the wars begin, that’s where the dice are tossed across the table to establish who wins, who loses, who lives, who dies.”

The classic conspiracy theory to end them all and I listened, open-mouthed, hair falling into my eyes.  It was maybe 1976 when I heard this first.

You are right to snigger at my naivety.  I listened and twisted this story around inside my head, and it did indeed seem completely unbelievable.

Now of course it’s 2014, and Im older and wiser and I have to laugh at myself too. Now I know wasn’t a theory. Now I know it’s true. Continue reading Summer 2014 Newsletter

OUT NOW- 10 to the Power of 9

A limited marble pink vinyl limited release (499 copies)

Out on June 27th 2014

————————————————————————————————

The Legendary Pink Dots are back with a new great concept album.
This is first Volume of a complex story about conspiracy, magic, and spirituality. Minimal synths, guitars, syncopated rhythms that are making weird, psychedelic and transcendental noises which are of course accompanied by the distinctive voice of Ka-Spel. Lying on your sofa, pumping up the volume and just dream away on their ethereal sounds.
10 to the Power of 9 is a dark and exceptional trip into their warped and bizarre musical psyche.

More information and order now through Rustblade

About the Band

We, the Legendary Pink Dots feel it is our duty to inform an unwary public that the new number of the Beast is 834. In fact we, the Legendary Pink Dots were instrumental in this turn of events. Let us explain…

The change occurred on a rainy morning in August when the Legendary Pink Dots, Lisa and friends of the Prozhtet Militat were holding a party to celebrate the completion of AsYlum – a cage into which they could retreat from worldly matters.

Naturally, the party finished with the traditional burning of Oogchuu, the fire baby. (We must point out that the burning of Oogchuu is not an act of cruelty. Oogchuu’s purpose in the order of things is to be burned, and he never protests when Poison Barbarella strikes the first match.)

However, things did not go as planned. Oogchuu sneezed at an inappropriate moment… the resulting ball of fire incinerated the curtains. The Legendary Pink Dots, Lisa, and the friends of the Prozhtet Militat found themselves in the midst of an inferno!

Happily the quick-thinking Silver Man had the foresight to dial 999 before the telephone melted. But it was not the fire brigade who appeared at our flaming portal seconds later. It was the Beast… standing on his head! Angry! Cursing!

We tried to reason with Him, but it was useless. The terrible one was hell-bent on revenge.

With one sweep of his left hand, the Beast turned the world upside down. Only we, the Legendary Pink Dots, Lisa and the friends of the Prozhtet Militat stayed rooted to the spot as our fellow mortals flew off the earth as if it was an upturned jug.

Then Stret Majest Alarme had a brilliant idea.

“Hey Terrible One”, he volunteered, “Why don’t you choose a number more in keeping with your dark and terrible methods? After all, 666 reminds me of three little ducks swimming across a pond…”

The Beast was scowling. “Ducks?!” He scowled, but Stret bravely continued. “How about 888? Twist that on it’s side and you have infinity – multiplied by three! Yowza!”

A perverse smile spread across the Terrible One’s face. He liked the idea.

“I like the idea,” he cackled, “but it does not let you off the hook… how can I devise a fitting eternal punishment for you who caused me all this inconvenience?”

It was Patrick Paganini Q. who reluctantly provided the answer. “We shall make our music for you alone, Terrible One. We shall create… an Infinity Waltz!”

And so it goes. The number is 8, the time is 3/4. Endlessly. 8-3-4, 8-3-4, 8-3-4. Endlessly.

Will you spare a tear for us as we bid you farewell?

How to add new releases on Musicbrainz

Preliminary:

Please check the Combined Discography page to see which releases have not been included yet.

Gather information on the release including- title, release date, label, catalog number, tracklist

NOW…

step 1. Go to http://musicbrainz.org. In the yellow bar in the upper right of the page, create an account or log in.

step 2. Once you have created an account and verified your email address (which can be done very quickly when you click on the link they send to your email) and are logged in, type “The Legendary Pink Dots” in the search bar, located in the purple field in the upper right, with the tab next to it set to “artist”, and then click “search”.

step 3. Click on the top most result that says the band’s name and has a score of 100.

step 4. On the right side menu under ‘editing’, click ‘Add release’.

Step 5. Fill out the release information:

  • title
  • primary type (usually album)
  • secondary type (if applicable)
  • status
  • release date
  • Label and catalogue number if applicable. Otherwise leave it blank
  • Packaging

click ‘next’.

Step 6. Release duplicates.  Check if the title you are adding already exists.  If not, select “Do not use any of the above releases as a starting point” and click ‘next’.

Step 7. Add the tracklist without numbering them. Click ‘add disc’.  What you just entered will show up in their format with track numbers.  If satisfied, click ‘next’.

Step 8.  Recordings- click ‘next’.

Step 9. Edit note- you can add a url address that describes where you got your information.  When done, click ‘enter edit’.

Step 10.  The page that shows up next has various tabs including one for adding cover art.  You can do so here.

Adding cover art:

Drag the image you wish to upload onto your desktop or preferred place on your computer.

Click the “add cover art” button.

Click the “choose file” button to select the image from your computer.

Under “type”, select “front”, unless you wish to add images from other parts of the album such as the back or liner notes, which you can also do. If you got the image from the web, they recommend including the link in the edit notes box. It’s not required though.

When ready, click the “enter edit” grey box, then wait. It takes several seconds for the image to load. When it does, the cover art will show up as a large thumbnail in a light orange box. It is done. You can see the image as 250px, 500px or original, and you can edit or remove the image.

AND THAT’S IT!  THANKS FOR YOUR HELPING OUT!!  It may take some time before it shows up on the Discography Overview.  If you don’t see it right away, please check back later.

If, however, my instructions are lacking, here is an other link with instructions on how to add a release:
