Video- Caveat For All Things Brown

On listening to The Teargarden’s “Brown Acid Caveat” a few years ago I had some of the most profound experiences of my life – both good and bad. I attempted to capture them in a song and later made a video of this experience of Synesthesia. Here is a part of that video. The complete video is available at https://patrickq.bandcamp.com/album/asylum… and the music at https://patrickq.bandcamp.com/album/theCaveat…

Caveat For All Things Brown by Patrick Q. Wright

Patrick Q Wright has released a beautiful new album. It is available as a digital download or as a limited edition CDR on his Bandcamp page.

The CD uses different mastering techniques from the downloads incorporating less compression and more analogue technology for connoisseurs who prefer nuance and dynamics in preference to “loudness”.

Edward Ka-Spel’s vocals are on two of the tracks.

In addition, Patrick is offering a CD only version of Asylum Relapse (without the DVD).  Find it here.

A collaboration with Patrick Q Wright and Edward Ka-Spel

The Scarlet Trail of Stinging Tears

The pandemic forced everyone into cyber cells over the last two years, but despite the darkness, beautiful creations manifest. This one was born in a tiny refuge in Italy and articulated in the suburbs of shut down London. It’s the first salvo with new material of a collaboration that will run and run…

This album is available as a digital download.

The passing of Barry Gray

Barry Gray a.k.a. Stret Majest Alarme

Barry GrayIt’s a thin tightrope we try to navigate. Today came the awful news that Barry – a dear old friend and key figure in the early Dots – just passed away. I’d only enjoyed a long phone chat with him recently (Barry loved to chat for hours!). Some things you just don’t see coming.

To say I felt a strong connection with Barry would be an understatement. We were both born in Barking, both grew up in single parent families at a time when it was rare, we got into lots of the same music (Barry loved Crimson- it shows!). We both railed against the injustices of an uncaring World, and shared a deep desire for a much more socialistic society to live. Such were the conversations we had. I’m trying to wrap my head around this news and I confess I’m struggling. Safe travels old friend…

Sad News- Rik Chevrolet

As if 2020 couldn’t be sad enough, I heard this week that Rik Chevrolet (Tony Johnson) passed away after suffering with a brain tumour.

Tony played guitar with The Dots in late 1980 and 81, and was the mastermind behind “Sensory Deprivation” and “Temper Temper”.

After he left the band we lost touch for some time, but I was so happy to hook up with him again around 15 years ago and we kept up this contact.

I go back many years with Tony. We went to school together, went on vacation together, hung out at the same watering holes and tried to convince each other of the greatness of our favourite bands. He had some success with me as I (belatedly) embraced the music of The Who, although I can’t say he ever felt the same way about Faust and Magma.

In the last years Tony lived in Cyprus, and continued to make music as long as he was able. I’ll miss him, I’ll miss his great sense of humour, his wit. Farewell my dear old friend..
