Press Release

A Pleasure Cruise Through 9 Dimensions successfully takes yet another left turn by presenting an album covered in concrete. Musique concrete. Edward Ka-Spel has eschewed all song structure in favor of avant-garde soundscapes. The word “soundscapes” is almost a dirty word in most cases, but EKS attacks sound like a master sculptor, freeing unique and surprising sonic forms from the ether. He brilliantly decoupages electronics with emotional otherness, punctuated by disembodied voices that bubble up from the beyond. This is what Xenakis and Schaeffer listen to in electro-acoustic Heaven. Why be outward-bound when you can be Edward-bound. –Beta-lactam Ring Records

Notes

2013 Bandcamp release:
Issued mid January 2013 in a custom made and hand printed 6 panel case as an edition of 500 copies. The ghosts of decades past are blocking the doors but you carry the future in the palm of your left hand. It promises a gentle landing, a transformation in soft colours. Hope. Eternity. Now, for the sake of posterity, one last pose before the ruin…..please.

Reflective and a little melancholy, parts of it could have been made back in ’73, but in another more innocent dimension.  Mostly instrumental, apart from that odd interlude concerning a turkey.

***

A largely instrumental album from EK (although there is a curious tale of missing turkey recited on “Friends of The Earth”), “One Last Pose” is drenched in the artist’s earliest musical memories. There is a distinct flavour of the 70s prevailing throughout the work and instruments used in it’s creation date from decidedly ancient beasts through to an eclectic collection of soft synthesisers. – notes from Bandcamp page

February 2024 expanded release:
Released for February 2024 Bandcamp Friday, One Last Pose Before the Ruin is presented as newly covered up and greatly expanded.  The deluxe offering included the original cd from 2013 plus a CDR of new music created in January of 2024.  This is a limited edition of 86.  The CDR is also available separately under the title The Ruin.  The digital version has the new image as seen above.

The notes from EK’s Bandcamp:
IN THE PRESENCE OF THE LENS
I WILL SUSPEND MY PLAUSIBILITY
AND POUT FOR ALL ETERNITY MISSHAPEN, SAD AND
AWKWARD.YOU
SEE, I CANNOT GET MY MOUTH QUITE RIGHT,
ITʼS LIKE I’M BEING TORTURED..
AND MY MELANCHOLY SOUL HAS JUST BEEN KIDNAPPED THEN DEPORTED…….AHHH
BUT THEYʼLL TAKE AWAY MY BLEMISHES AND GIVE MY HAIR SOME STYLE
TWO BRIGHT BLUE EYES TO LOOK THROUGH AND A MILLION DOLLAR SMILE
A BODY THATʼS BEEN WORKING OUT,
THEYʼLL PAINT OVER ALL THOSE TEARS
AND MY PRECIOUS PLACE UPON THIS EARTH WILL DISAPPEAR……..
LAST, THEY ‘LL STRIP ME OF MY NAME,
THEN THEY’LL BRAND ME WITH A CODE
THATʼS COMPOSED OF ONES AND ZEROES THAT STRETCH ACROSS THE ROAD.
AND I ENVY MY DEAR FOREFATHERS
IN SEPIA AND CHROME;
THE STEADY FADE HAS SERVED YOU WELL ….ALTHOUGH ITʼS SLOW.

Notes from LPD’s Bandcamp:
THE GHOSTS OF DECADES ARE BLOCKING THE DOORS BUT YOU CARRY THE FUTURE IN THE PALM OF YOUR LEFT HAND. IT PROMISES A GENTLE LANDING, A TRANSFORMATION IN SOFT COLOURS. HOPE, ETERNITY.NOW FOR THE SAKE OF POSTERITY, ONE LAST POSE BEFORE THE RUIN …PLEASE

Review

I am sitting with the newest release from mr. Edward Ka-Spel in front of me. This his latest effort is out, on the exciting and interessting label Beta-Lactam Ring Records, all packed up in a truly amazing cover and art work. As always it is very exciting when a new release comes out from Ka-Spel, as he is a true chameleon in music, every time putting out something very special and unique. 5 tracks in the well known Ka-Spel experimental, dark, droney style is what your ears are treated with. This is music that demands, your full attention to get the maximum experience. Sit down in your favourite listening chair, put on your headphones and let yourself be captivated by the music. Admitted, this music is not for everybody, but if you (like this reviewer) likes experiemental, complicated and drone music this will hit spot on. The solo albums are Edward Ka-Spels labatory, a place where he experiements and create excellent sounds out of this world. Edward Ka-Spel really have a sound off his own, that does not sound like anything else. I like most of his earlier releases and this his latest one does not dissapoint either. If you know Ka-Spel and his music you probally allready have this release, if you are a new listener this is a good place to start. Highly recommended !!!  – Complicated Sounds

Notes

2014 release:
This 2 track LP is a limited edition of 350 copies.

Bandcamp notes:
An album conceived on a freezing day in Limburg. A walk in the forest with Alena, Phil and Astrid eventually led to a frozen lake. Children were hurling large chunks of wood into the ice and the sound was like a strange cannon fired from the clouds. Inevitably the audio recorder was produced and the sounds were captured and then used as foundations for Trapped in Amber. An aural painting and released only on vinyl by Plinkety Plonk Records.

2023 reissue:
CD-R edition of 99. Released for October 2023 Bandcamp Friday.
“An instrumental album originally released by Korm Plastics on vinyl (alas, now sold out). This editionhas been sonically enhanced.” -EK
