Notes from enhanced version upload:

Consider the scenario….A huge spooky house. No phone. No internet. Damn it, no working fridge in the kitchen.
The last problem isn’t as bad as it sounds as the house is in Finland and it’s Winter, and there is a dark room where the sun does not shine (ever). That’s where the milk, butter, curious Finnish beer (Lapin Kulta) goes.
Half of the house is shut off, sheets over the furniture. The “living” half is quiet apart from the odd creak in the night which could have emerged from any of the 8 or so rooms.

Such was Alena’s living space in the little town of Karis, provided by the college where she worked as a teacher. The previous occupant had been a missionary who disappeared with his family to Kazakhstan years earlier, generously allowing the college to use the house as they wished.

The nearest supermarket was 40 minutes away in the Summer, but somehow considerably further when the temperature dropped to minus 20 (and it frequently did).

Focal point of the living room was an electric church organ. It hadn’t been played for years when Alena opened the lid for the first time.

When EK entered her life, that instrument was almost permanently switched on. The sound was utterly glorious, much in evidence throughout these recordings and it still turns up in all kinds of places on recent releases from EK/LPDs.

“Red Sky At Night” is a collection of improvisations featuring EK and Alena from 2007-2010 largely made in Karis but also derived from sessions in The Netherlands.  It’s a humble cdr release that has always existed under the radar, but it delivers some truly special moments as well as a whole lotta love.

This plain white CDr came packaged in a white sleeve with laser printed stickers on front and back. A paper insert contained the following text:

“The Silverman

Elemental

Dust slowly dances in the light that streams

through the cracks of a carefully built reality.

Where the light meets shadow it seems

potent…elemental even.”

***

A 48 minute epic voyage into a deep red ocean that just goes down and down …..Don’t call it ambient , this is the stuff of lucid dreams where fleeting memories of past lives present themselves and tease you into chasing them through forbidden territories. Don’t be fooled by the blue cover- it’s red down there.

Notes

The first 50 copies- numbered and signed. Packaged in a full color gatefold sleeve. Featuring guest performer Edward Ka-Spel (Legendary Pink Dots). The man of silver is a master of negative space. His silences say as much as his notes. Perhaps this is how he can compose a thing that sounds like glaciers conversing. Ringing ubertones breathe sighs of bas-relief at the borealis. The Silveman’s sounds are quiet and delicious, like a Rainbow Generator sinking slowly into a rusted hull. These ambiences destroy fascists. Dark and twisting pulses hollowly respirate, imitating their dying. This is the good stuff.   BLRR

Lyrics

This Side of the Door

I pleaded with him not to open that door…

Always is Now
I want to leave this dark corner and crawl to you, over you, maybe inside you and capture the moment and keep it preserved like a butterfly pinned to a page. To a place where the joy is the air we once breathed, where we sink to our knees with the beauty. Besieged but unflustered. The crumbs of our comfort descend when we call them and take only that which we need, then toss the remains like we’re scattering seeds. Where we do not believe because we don’t have to. Where we do not believe in the future, the past. Where we are… no questions. We are, and that’s it… There’s an eternity that clings which we stretch out, fend off and count the terrifying seconds in an everlasting twilight. And there’s an eternity with wings. It’s short and it’s sweet, it laughs at the mirror and always is now. Me? I remain forever yours. Trapped in Amber.
