Notes

A rough cassette that lurked, waiting to be played, in an Ikea basket for a couple of decades, this is the promised “Live’89 Part 2”. Sadly it isn’t the whole show (from the Bikini Club in Toulouse, France), and quality is shaky, especially with those drop-outs here and there, not forgetting a dose of flu for the singer- but enhancement has also brought it to life.

It’s important as it’s one of the first shows with Bob Pistoor and reflects just how the Dots transformed during that special year. A document, and some rare live songs too (just a pity the first part of “Waiting for the Cloud” is missing). -Edward Ka-Spel

There are 10 people who run the World. They are all male and presidents, magnates and high priests all do their bidding. The 10 live in villas in the remotest part of the Himalayas- a place that absolutely NO – ONE would ever stumble upon. Although the 10 live in such close proximity to each other, they choose to have meetings in the back room of a small office in London. That’s where the decisions are made. That’s where the wars begin, that’s where the dice are tossed across the table to establish who wins, who loses, who lives, who dies.

The classic conspiracy theory to end them all and I listened, open-mouthed, hair falling into my eyes . It was maybe 1976 when I heard this first. You are right to snigger at my naivety. I listened and twisted this story around inside my head, and it did indeed seem completely unbelievable. Now of course it’s 2014, and I’m older and wiser and I have to laugh at myself too. Now I know wasn’t a theory.  Now I know it’s true.  – Edward- Ka-spel

Press Release

Legendary Pink Dots are back with a new great concept album.

This is first Volume of a complex story about conspiracy, magic, and spirituality. Minimal synths, guitars, syncopated rhythms that are making weird, psychedelic and transcendental noises which are of course accompanied by the distinctive voice of Ka-Spel. Lying on your sofa, pumping up the volume and just dream away on their ethereal sounds.
10 to the Power of 9 is a dark and exceptional trip into their warped and bizarre musical psyche.

For sure one of the best Concept albums of the Band. – Rustblade

Press Release

“Are You Receiving us, Planet Earth?!” is the first effort composed by Edward Ka-Spel & Philippe Petit, both playing various instruments and electronics. Their exchanges ran over the course of two years trying to create something which would meet their usual aesthetics and at the same time bering them to newer territories.

The seeds were sown on exotic stringed instruments by Philippe on sultry nights in Marseilles. Long wandering instrumentals, sometimes angular, sometimes mysterious, always operating in their own peculiar universe.
Through the medium of cyberspace, these landscapes were delivered to Edward Ka-spel in London, who detected hit potential, at least with the inhabitants of the planet Glurg, and duly added vocals plus other underlying, utterly disturbing elements.

There was a logic forming in this voyage, although by the time EK delivered his interpretation back to PP, the dark matter was literally dripping from the project. Philippe added the final touches, leaving the inevitable question…
Planet Earth- are you receiving us?  It’s been a while…..Planet Earth, are you, in fact, STILL THERE??? –Rustblade

Notes

Issued as a one-time edition of 100 numbered copies late Dec. Presented in a six panel French Black paper sleeve, laser cut cover art, silver silkscreened art, each one unique. Artwork by Luke Buser. The CD contains “Vita Nova (Version Apocalypse)”, a version from the forthcoming full length studio album Saucers Over Lincoln and “D-list”, a 3 minute exclusive audio track playable on a turntable.

“It all happened during a magical week in the month of April 2014. After a thoroughly enjoyable tour the previous Fall when Randall Frazier aka Orbit Service opened for The Legendary Pink Dots in all corners of North America. It felt like such a perfect match that The Dots wanted to repeat the experience in Europe. However, it’s never smart to dive into a van for a tour immediately after stepping off a Transatlantic flight. Consequently Randall stayed with Edward Ka-Spel and family for 3 nights before hitting the road to Newcastle in the UK. That’s when the recordings happened. The red light was locked on a permanent red and the Ka-Spel/Frazier team basically explored a new universe together. Hours of material emerged which were later edited, decorated with vocals by both singers and then sent to Pink Dots’ Erik Drost and The Silverman for further contributions.”

HAARLEM March 2003

A nice town in the west of Holland and the strangest LPD related show in nearly 30 years of performing.

The venue was LITERALLY a toilet, well…..it had been once.

Constructed from glass this place wasn’t technically a building, it was a transparent cubicle on a traffic island.

Performers on the night were EK, The Silverman and Nicoletta Stephanz. As the trio played, the transparent walls often gave the impression that a bus was about to plough into the stage – thankfully those big yellow monsters always managed to swerve away at the last moment.

It was a small place. Only 25 tickets were made available – all in advance.

The sound equipment was from the Stone Age, yet after quite some sound enhancement this recording sounds inappropriately decent.

Most of the set was improvised too, so expect plenty of surprises.

Thanks to Nicoletta who captured the performance, Ray Steeg who engineered and Peter Bruyn who organised this unforgettable event.  -Edward Ka-Spel

2014 release:
This 2 track LP is a limited edition of 350 copies.

Bandcamp notes:
An album conceived on a freezing day in Limburg. A walk in the forest with Alena, Phil and Astrid eventually led to a frozen lake. Children were hurling large chunks of wood into the ice and the sound was like a strange cannon fired from the clouds. Inevitably the audio recorder was produced and the sounds were captured and then used as foundations for Trapped in Amber. An aural painting and released only on vinyl by Plinkety Plonk Records.

2023 reissue:
CD-R edition of 99. Released for October 2023 Bandcamp Friday.
“An instrumental album originally released by Korm Plastics on vinyl (alas, now sold out). This editionhas been sonically enhanced.” -EK
